Re: Gulf Classic 20-50 mineral oil
From engine design and test experience, its not only Zinc Level but Phosphorus level you're interested in. An engine I designed recently (which has a valve train very similar to a modern Jag AJV8 (funny that!) but made in China, had problems- and the cams would wear from excessive idling. Idling is ...

Re: E type Roll Centre and Handling
Please call me Rex. By lowering the UCA inboard mount you would probably raise the roll centre by between 8-12mm (you're changing the UCA angle effectively). I don't envisage huge changes to handling by doing this. You've done the right thing by controlling the camber. Although roll centres DO effec...

Re: E type Roll Centre and Handling
Its not really complicated- you get pictures, like the one I posted, and take dimensions and angles. Im posting my diagrams of how I worked out the X308 Jaguar roll centres https://i.postimg.cc/L5btQ4Q7/X308-Front.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/RZfF2Cbt/X308-Rear.jpg The 280 mm number for the front of the...

E type Roll Centre and Handling
Greetings, I have been digging deep into vehicle dynamics in general and Roll centres in particular. My OEM background has had me deliver various vehicle projects where Ive had a good overview but Im now digging in technically deeper. The aim is to learn mainly. If I can benefit the community by sha...

I bought my series 2 OTS last year and am loving it. It's exceeded my expectations. Nice riding, quite soft, nice feedback to the steering. Although numbers matching- I bought the car knowing its not totally original: The bonnet is from around a 67 (series 1.5) with the smaller grill opening and ind...

Accumilation Of Vehicles
I think most of us are familiar with the stereotype of more mature single women having many cats. They are often called 'Crazy Cat women' because they collect cats. Of this breed my ex wife was one (a woman not a cat!). I don't know if there's a similar term for mature gentlemen. If not, perhaps I c...

Re: What did you do with your E Type today?
I did my brake master cylinder on my series 2 a few weeks ago.
I must say, it was a pleasure to work on compared to my new stuff.
The hardest part was bleeding the system- namely the rear farthest caliper. I let gravity do a lot of it.

Re: Difference btw US and European spec’s
I just bought a Series 2 OTS recently too. I'm from Europe originally. Have been contemplating what to change to Euro spec. I know my rear end is 3.54:1. It DOES feel ludicrously under geared. Not sure if it has an LSD. The torque is nice though. It runs about 20-21 mph/1000 rpm in 4th gear. I want ...

Well Marquis, that sounds excellent. I would like a Challenger please 1971 would do. I hope you have a subscription to my heroes, David Freiburger, Mike Finnegan, Steve Dulcich, Tony De Angelo and Lucky. Motortrend is killing it at the moment and Engine Masters is superb. https://www.motortrendonde...

Re: Jaguar XK-6 DOHC port/cylinder head analysis
This is fascinating. I always wonder what the improvements would be, if any, to have the combustion chambers aligned with the bores on the 4.2. What are the detrimental affects off the offset bores? Presumably the squish, mixture swirl and combustion characteristics are different from cylinder to c...

Re: 4.5 Litre rebuild
Very cool thread. My take on the 4.7 is that I personally want the engine in a sports car to be 'revvy'. The XK with its super long stroke is heavily biased towards low speed. The intake valves are small for the cylinder size- to the point where the torque curve feels like a diesel almost. Compared ...

Re: Jaguar XK-6 DOHC port/cylinder head analysis
I would reaaaly love to hear something about the Maserati C114 engine. It gave around 178 hp in 2.7 ltre shape, 180 to 190 in 3 ltre, and 220 in Merak SS and with huge valves (which usually broke). I can get measures - I never dyno‘ed my own car. Its base was a 3 ltre with broken pistons, so I had ...

Re: Jaguar XK-6 DOHC port/cylinder head analysis
Here's an article on a twin plug XK motor. https://www.enginelabs.com/news/video-4-2l-jaguar-road-race-engine-makes-400-hp-on-dyno/ I'm somewhat skeptical of the 400 Bhp claim. They seem to claim it as 'net'. But first a little history lesson- the original E type was rated at 265 bhp 'Gross'-which m...

Re: Jaguar XK-6 DOHC port/cylinder head analysis
I wouldn't raise the CR of a stock cyl head. You need to go Twin Plugs to reap the benefits of a higher Compression Ratio. A guy in Illinois did this recently. The Chevy LS7 cyl heads have the valve seat inserts pretty much touching- you have to be sure there's no porosity. So as long as they're not...

I tried to post the images via my desk top and it wouldn't post the images regardless of size chosen. I ended up putting the whole lot on my iPhone and posting from there and now the images are super small.
