Hi
I finally got to zinc plate the near side front suspension parts.
On to the offside parts soon.
Can post recipe if anyone's interested.
Hope it lasts.. if it doesn't then will paint .

Hi Pete, do these pics help you? I took them in '17 during the dismantling process.. Or maybe you've solved the problem now.. I've just seen your post.. My S3 is manual, RHD. Re: What-Ho & the JOURNEY so far

I'm about to start the painting journey , omg....... Also that dolly . How does it connect at the bulkhe...

Re: Introducing myself
Guy, thank you for your words of encouragement and you read me well. The despondency can itself be quite a drain. My view of the S3 restoration has changed from when I first started ripping in to it a few years ago. I seem to be more philosophical these days.. Its more about the actual journey than ...

Re: Introducing myself
Hi to all on forum again..... Just to let you know I'm still here.. My project is on hold at the moment. Renovating a bathroom which became bigger than 'Ben Hur' I need to get back into my S3, but being in Western Australia and now summer time my metal roof shed / garage is like a sauna and grinding...

Re: Restoration finish of suspension wishbones
Hi Tom, they look great, you've done a good job of the painting.
I've decided to have a go at zinc electro-plating......
Wishbones
Bushing brakets
Hub carriers
spacer tubes.
When I get a result I will share the experience with the forum, good or bad :) :(

Re: Restoration finish of suspension wishbones
Maybe........ the early series cars prior to Leyland take over had the plated wishbones . Once Leyland took over they resorted painted for cost reduction..?
just a thought.

Restoration finish of suspension wishbones
I have dismantled the top and bottom wishbones (see pic) and thinking about restoration finish of these items along with the axle carrier. It seems that some restorers are having them electro-plated. However when looking at mine I can see that they were originally black, presumably painted. Did the ...

Re: Lower wishbone, fulcrum shaft removal
I finally managed to fully pull apart the first lower wishbone . Method: 1. carefully cut through the seized bolt head that connects the 2 legs of the wishbone using an 4" angle grinder cutting disk. Pressed bolt out. 2. Tried to press out lower fulcrum shaft through both wishbone legs using my chea...

Re: fuel tank - Carbon canister on series 3 E type ??
Hi
Are referring to the canister under the bonnet or the little tank nesstled in the boot rear wing near the fuel tank?
The later is an expansion tank and some other threads here have suggested it's not really necessary ...

Re: Sad news
Hi Ross I'm sorry to hear the sad news of your Fathers passing and send you my sincere condolences. If I could I would volunteer to be part of a drive by send off but there are two reasons I can't. One is that I live in Australia and the other is that my series 3 is fully stripped down. These specia...

Re: new member / dealer and car opinions please
Hi Hayden, Welcome... Are you looking for a 'ready to go driver', or a restoration project,,, or a bit of both.. ? You need to carefully look at the body as these old cars were and are notorious for corrosion. Rear inner and outer wheel arches, sills, floors and front bulkhead, boot floor, and of co...

Lower wishbone, fulcrum shaft removal
hi there e type people, my first technical post. A simple question I hope... Is the lower wishbone fulcrum shaft an interference fit where it has been pressed into the wishbone when first assembled? I've read in a previous thread that force and heat is needed to separate the shaft from the wishbone ...
