Steering Rack Mounts Replacement

The old girl failed her MOT last week on the steering rack mountings, I've ordered new ones but wanted some words of guidance before tackling the job. I've carried out a search and have only found someone asking whether the job can be carried out with the radiator in situ. The car has power steering...

I've got the tank out and there appears to be no holes or signs of leaks and I'm suspecting number 2 on your list (the sump gasket). With the tank out of the car can I replace the gasket and water test it :?:

Fuel filter, which type?

Whilst carrying out a general inspection of the fuel system I notice I don't have a paper element filter in the glass fuel filter housing :?: Checked in the Haynes manual and it talks about a wire filter at top of the glass bowl which requires cleaning. When did it switch to paper elements :?:

Leaking petrol tank

My early season problems continue, filled up with petrol the other day, on returning home and garaging her there was a strong smell of petrol in the garage. As we have an attached garage it lingered into the house also :x On investigation petrol was leaking from the bottom of the car under the fuel ...

Thank you all for your advice. I re-timed the car this morning with the vacuum advance disconnected and plugged. Reconnected it and just been for a spin, all is well and she's running the best she has for sometime :D . David, Obviously it could still be that the fuel tank has sediment in and because...

Dynamic timing and general running issues

Just got around to fitting the electronic ignition I purchased last year. I guess I was forced into it as I had the embarrassing situation that I ground to a halt yesterday  during the cars first outing of 2010, with the following symptoms: 1. 5-10 miles at 60-70 mph, no problems 2. Came off ...

Can the membership renewal discount voucher be used when ordering online? If not, how does one go about using it?

Water hoses - cotton reinforced or silicon?

Both I and the car are in the process of emerging from hibernation and I managed to spend sometime on the old girl yesterday. Something I'd read about during the winter months was about the use of OAT (pink) anti freeze with classics http://www.fbhvc.co.uk/2010/01/27/antifreeze/ . Last year when I h...

Torque spanner setting for track rod ends?

Car went in for MOT last week and failed on excessive play on the track (tie) rod ends. I've ordered the parts from SNG but my question to the group is what the Torque setting for tightening the nuts back is. I've looked through my softcopy service manuals and although it refers to the settings for ...

UPDATE When she was up to working temperature, say after a long run and then was left to sit idling in neutral, when D1 was engaged on the gearbox she stalled and would not restart. Leaving her for about ten minutes usually did the trick, David suggested the ignition coil when I originally posted th...

Mark,
I made that expensive mistake, which cost me a bonnet respray, as I jacked my car on the cross member under the radiator  but you learn by your mistakes and in this picture it shows the correct jacking and axle stand points.

As an update I took the route suggested by David, that of the Oil Plug Repair from Cool Cat Express Corp. and it has worked :D . So thanks to David and to all those who posted suggestions, I'm concious this may only be a temporary fix so may get the sump properly repair at the next oil change.

As usual a big thank for all your advice. I've been on the Timesert website ( http://www.timesert.com/html/drainplug.html ) and they actually have sump plug repair kits (I like this solution as it seems it can be carried out in situ) and they have a distributor here in the UK in Wurth UK but I need ...

Weeping sump plug

This week I gave Elle an oil change and also fitted the spin-on filter conversion. You can see from the picture that the sump plug was in a bit of a state, so I decided to replace it. http://www.devans.karoo.net/forum_imgs/Cimg2492_40pc.jpg The problem is I think in the past the thread has been dama...

UPDATE Tried running the motor on the bench and it was fine, reconnected the limit switch and again applied 12V and again ran okay. Retested the connector and this time put the voltmeter across the supply on the connector. Previously I had used a part of the car body for earth. It transpires it was...

Windscreen wipers packed up

Well got ELLE back from the auto finishers yesterday with the bonnet work completed and she looks gr8. A closing remark from the guys was that the windscreen wipers were not working and as the washer was not working prior to it going in, I assumed the problem was related. After some ivestigation wor...
