Wiper Choice

I 'hurriedly' replaced the wipers on my S1 3.8 and am now finding that they are not clearing the screen to well. The drivers side seems to have formed a 'hollow' where it sits on the elbow of the screen when in park. The other two just don't seem to 'pull' onto the screen that well and are poor at c...

Re: water in headlight

I was contemplating getting PL700 units with H4's but was wondering beam pattern and if they're any good at lighting the road. Quite fancy the original look but not at the expense of better lighting. Any thoughts

Re: Phone / sat nav adaptor

Bear in mind you cannot just swap the leads on the standard lighter socket as the case is earthed through the console. You could replace it with one of the plastic bodied ones though but the auxiliary socket in the glove box is the best solution, not least because as you change gear you will knock ...

Cheers Guys, lots of ideas here. Swapping the leads … such a simple idea, never thought of that … must be an age thing :-)

Re: water in headlight

Thanks Julian ... it's the glass light itself not the cover. Any recommendations on bulb upgrade or wattage I could increase to?

Phone / sat nav adaptor

Has anyone ever seen of found an adaptor that will go into a positive earth cigar lighter and allow a normal phone / sat nav connection. Just thought it was worth a shot before I add a 12v connection under my dash.

Cheers D

Clutch bite point

Could anyone advise on where in the pedal travel the clutch should bite. My S1 3.8 is fitted with a 4.2 / all synco box and currently bites in the last inch or so of pedal travel. The clutch only has 10000 miles on it.

http://www.carcovershop.co.uk/stretch-covers.asp

Their stretch covers fit the fhc beautifully without the expense of a fitted cover. (If your looking for an internal cover that is)

Re: Engine and gearbox swap

I have a 3.8 and swapped to a later box. I love it. In my opinion changing the 3.8 to 4.2 wont change much if anything. It all depends on what you are trying to achieve. As a matter of interest what cylinder head and inlet manifold combination is currently fitted and also the brake system (bellows ...

Re: Engine and gearbox swap

So it would be much better to install a 3.8 RAxxx engine but keep with the all synchro box as they're a much better drive?

Engine and gearbox swap

I have a 1964 3.8 fhc that has, in the past, been fitted with a 4.2 and all synchro box. I'm seriously thinking of fitting a 3.8 RAxxxx and Moss box.

Do people tend to feel that this is a good move both from a drivability and increase in value points of view.

Face Panel

Gents … 1. there maybe an obvious answer to this, but how do I remove the face panel to get at my fuse box. I've unscrewed the two retaining screws but didn't want to force the panel by pulling too hard as I'm new to E type and unsure if there's anything else need doing first. 2. I've noticed on tic...

Header Tank overflow

So .... Sunday gone was my first real drive out in the car. I didn't go too far (only about 20 miles or so) but when I returned home I found that water was coming from the overflow pipe. Whilst driving the temp was around the 75-80 mark (it was quite a cool day) but when I returned home and idled re...

Re: Newby

Out of interest, Dale, as a new owner of a running car, could you give us your first impressions of whatever driving you’ve done so far? Most of us have been around Es fkr a while and it’s nice to hear newcomer’s first driving impressions. Hello Peter, I haven't driven any great miles as yet, took ...

High Beam problem

Only my second post and still getting used to new ownership (1 week and counting) so this may just be me. Turned my lights on, side and head are all fine. Flasher works no problem but when I flick the headlight switch on the right side of the dash it turns the heads off and I don't have full beam. I...

Hello all, I'm both new to the forum and to E Type ownership having bought a 1964 series 1 3.8 a week or so ago. I've been slowly looking over the car finding any little faults or things I'd like to put right and noticed on the rear hatch I only have the Jaguar script but not the E Type or 3.8. Did ...
