Re: Am I overheating?

I'm not sure what set up you have but, for a 3.8: The header tank shouldn't be an empty container and I believe that is your issue. The water passes through the top hose and you need that to go across the otter switch. If the water is just pouring into the header from the top hose, then it's probabl...

Re: Clutch/ engine / ? Problem

How nice to have the car back after so long. I hope you get the idle down to the 700 rpm area and get out and enjoy the car. It's been an odd year for most of us and probably the year where you'd miss the car least, with travelling restrictions and so on. I hope it all works out well. Cheers, Chris

Re: 72 EXB - my father's old E-Type

In the last JDC E-Type register directory that I have, 72 EXB is shown as serial 860682 but, there aren't any details about the owner. @andrewh, the directory does show an owner for your car 3672PE and, if you don't have that information, let me know and I'll pass you the owner details by private ma...

Re: Hello

Hi Malcolm. Yes, the car is looking nice in the sunshine after a wash and wax - not so much at the moment as it's dirty... I had the head done by VSE (no longer trading) and, as I remember, has larger inlet valves, modified inlet camshaft and some reworking of the ports. The car runs well as the mod...

Re: Hello

Thanks for the welcome. @andrewh - yes, mine's a UK car, 3050TU. I don't know of your old car, sadly but, they aren't often scrapped these days so, it's probably out there. I bought mine in early 1999 and used it a lot but, corrosion started to be obvious some years later and I had a lot of work don...

Re: s1 3.8 Solid State Fuel Pump

Interesting comment from Burlen about the trapped air and how to diagnose that - thanks. I've had one of the SNG pumps in my 3.8 for about 8 or 10 years and never had any issues. Did they change the design recently? I've not measured the fuel pressure or current draw but I might check the latter as ...

Hello Geoff

Yes, it's me. Been a while so I hope all's still going well. Out in the E-Type yesterday but we're waiting for all the tourists to leave the West Country before getting out more. Not long now and the roads will be deserted again! Apart from the 303 of course...

Re: Clutch/ engine / ? Problem

As has been said, it does sound like the crank thrust washers have not been sized correctly/are damaged/fitted the wrong way around. You can just drop the sump to see if they are intact. As I recall, the allowance for crankshaft end float is only 4 to 6 thou so it should be obvious if there is a maj...

Hello

Just a note to say hello. I signed up for the forum a couple of years ago but other aspects of life have meant I've not been active. I have a 1963 3.8 FHC which I bought about 21 years ago and have used a lot. It is still a brilliant car and a joy to drive. When working in Europe as an aircraft engi...
