Items using the same paint code as the hood frame
I have tried to research the items which were painted the same BS381C-694 ( grey colour) as the S2 roadster hood frame. I am sure there are people who have already undertaken a restoration where this question also has presented itself, and would be grateful if anyone can help me out by listing what ...

Re: Series 2 hood frame colour?
I think I read it on a forum, but can`t recall where.
If that colour isn`t any different to the S 2 cars then great..
Am I conrrect in thinking the seat runners and stone guard are the same grey colour?
Are there any other items painted in the same coilour?
(May as well ask now.
tx all

Re: Series 2 hood frame colour?
Thanks guys, I had already checked the judging guide and it just says 'grey'.
The forum returns seemed to always refer to the S1 cars, which (rightly or wrongly idk) I was told were a different shade to the S2 cars.

Series 2 hood frame colour?
I am sure this has been documented previously, but I have searched and I cannot find the paint code for the S2 roadster hood frame. I believe it is the same colour as the seat runners, but as they are new I have no point of reference. I have been told that the S2 hood frames were in a slightly :bigr...

Re: 3rd time lucky?
Hi Jonathan you replied in a previous post to me when i sugested you keep the S3 head... "I take the point Steve, but its a question of honesty and integrity. I cannot offer a fully restored car for sale if it is not "original" in terms of the major "period components". If you do this, then where d...

Re: 3rd time lucky?
Thanks guys, that is interesting feedback. I believe the early S1 is a comparable head, along with the 420G ( ie it was basically the same head), and that can be used to replace the incorrect XJ6 S3 head that is currently fitted, and it will look correct. I need to let the engine guy know on Monday ...

3rd time lucky?
Well they say 3rd time is a charm... I have now been offered this head to put in place of the S3 head currently sitting atop my S2 E type 4.2 long block. Its amazing what you can learn in a week, but I don`t begin to claim any degree of knowlege compared to the members here. I hope someone may confi...

Re: Found a head.. is it from an E type?
Jonathan, As I suggested on your other thread, the only way to be 100% is to determine the head part number. I don't understand why you are not referring to this. The stamped numbers at the back of the head in the valley are completely irrelevant and relate only to the identification of the base ca...

Found a head.. is it from an E type?
Hi Guys, after a bit of detective work believe I may have found a genuine E type S2 head to replace the XJ6 S3 version that mine came with. I am hoping those in the know will confirm yay or nay on this for me. I believe its from an E type because not only does it have the correct inlet cam cover wit...

Hi Chris, yes they are a reflection...The gloss paint was a lot more reflective than I think was used looking at another block that I saw there today.

Re: Long stud straight port head....or short?
I have now looked at the photographs of the block. This engine as a whole has nothing to do with an E type. It has the vertically ribbed block which came in with the Series 3 XJ6 and IIRC has engine numbers which have an 8 prefix Chris, I am not sure what you are saying here..The block has the corr...

Re: Long stud straight port head....or short?
With an October '69 car you're on the cusp of the camshaft and potential clearances changes so if you're so keen to get everything right and your engine number is lower than 7R8688 you need a head with the original camshafts and 4/6thou valve clearances. Thanks John, I am getting a couple of phone ...

Hi Paul, I have a LHD October 1962 fhc so re values there are some factors to consider which affect values. 1. Colour/ trim and I refer to the heritage certificate "factory" colours ..Respray to a different scheme, and its £££ off the value. Best exterior colours for getting the top money, are appar...

Re: Paint colour for Diff
The correct colour is black.. If you watch "Built by Many" on you tube, they visit Barbary Hill and the expert
William Haines ( yes that Haines) states that although many people left it in the red oxide, it was originally painted black
watch it here:

Re: Long stud straight port head....or short?
The cam covers are easily swapped(note black ribbed covers with or without cutouts on the top depends on engine No)...and the caps could be replaced with hex plugs..it will still be a matching numbers car as only the engine block and gearbox are numbered......It is debatable but i have yet to see a...

Re: Advice for anyone wishing to import a car from overseas.
Excellent. It becomes even more complicated with Citroens because they will lay down flat. You always get fork marks from lifters underneath on those. Best you can try is someone to drive them into the box and only YOU drive it out. Carsten A certain US shipping company used old mattresses to put u...

Re: Long stud straight port head....or short?
First of all there are significant differences which you can spot from a mile once you know what to look for I will give you just a couple of examples. 1/ The logo on the cam cover is a vinyl sticker on the inlet side where the E type had an embossed or raised Jaguar motif (as in the picture) 2/ the...
