Re: Interior Trim - I HATE CONTACT ADHESIVE, but ........... this helps

Ha ! MEK - I thought that was just for dry cleaning ! Where do you use that, as in, what does it do that one of the others doesn't ? Anyway, that's seven carcinomas then. Yes, was aware of boot-colour divergence but think it looks SO much nicer  As I'll never sell the car (kids ? who cares !...

Re: Air Filter Canister Closing Clamps or Clips

Thought I'd tidy up this post, thanks for the various inputs. I did indeed put them where they should have been. https://i.postimg.cc/sxJQwxQM/IMG-20240408-153055.jpg The TIG "spot" welds are not quite original-looking but .... https://i.postimg.cc/659GTrgn/IMG-20240408-153102.jpg It's funny, but th...

Re: Track rod ends despair.

Despair is the right word. I got a new "short" set of Girlings from SNGB, and they're still too long once they're under droop-load . That nuance matters. Their lower rubbers deform so easily on full droop that there's another 5mm lost. I gave up and now have a pair of GAZ - not driven them yet, but ...

Re: Series 1 Heater Cable Routing and Spring Type

I can confirm that those were indeed the right parts. https://i.postimg.cc/ZRQSkwTh/IMG-20240409-215633.jpg Warning however. The Robey C19761 part looks great. But ..... 1. the holes in each cheek don't line up, and the two webs require twisting ..... 2. the odd-shaped clamping holes are too small, ...

Interior Trim - I HATE CONTACT ADHESIVE, but ........... this helps

I have been procrastinating for weeks, months even, about starting the re-fit of my interior. Yet I had done most of it before, in 2016-17 - some by myself, some by Jack McCarthy at BAS in Wales. But I had found the experience so traumatic that I've blocked out most of the memories, conserving just ...

Re: Series 1 4.2 Stereo Speakers

Funnily enough, I went to the recycling skip yesterday. Having spent tens of hours re-jigging my speakers, about 7 years ago, modifying the hidden bits of the centre console, fitting a hidden BlueTooth amp etc, adding hidden tweeters, I very quickly decided that I had wasted every minute. And it all...

Re: Tour de France Auto - anyone done it ?

Ha, the video makes it look like “the show must go on”, despite those poor sods being upside down in la foret !

Of course, these are all Black number cars, meaning they’re racing flat out against the clock.

I would only be doing it as a Red number, which is régularité.

Re: Tour de France Auto - anyone done it ?

Ha ! Eight years older, and Deeper in Debt ; St Peter don’t call me cause I can’t…….. I never did this TdF thing, but it’s still itching. My question remains, has anyone actually done it, or know someone who has ? The videos have a slight aura of posh twits with too much money and trophy wives (Ed -...

Re: Alternative to Kenlowe Thermostat, and Source Of Sealing Sleeves.

Yes Geoff, this replaces the otter-switch and copes with my Spal fan (not a Kenlowe, then) without the use of a relay.

The screw and rubber washer shown on the rim of the wheel are to act as a sort of brake, so the setting you've retained doesn't get accidentally nudged.

Re: Alternative to Kenlowe Thermostat, and Source Of Sealing Sleeves.

Just to report that this model of thermostat has worked just fine now on both the Mini and the E-Type for over seven years. I recently had great difficulty identifying a supplier of the red grooved-seal that Kenlowe used to supply to help seal the capilliary going into a radiator hose, as all the pe...

Re: Front wheel bearings question

Timken's web site shows a steep decline in bearing life when a pre load is applied cold - end float needs to take account of operating temperature to avoid pre-load Could you substantiate this statement with an example, as it appears to be the complete opposite of Bill Angel's experience, and his r...

Re: Christopher Storey

That is truly dreadful news. His posts were excellent, and he was indeed generous with his time in private. I was often struck by his improbable mixture of engineering and letters, and admired the way he did not suffer fools gladly, and was prepared to say so. We have lost a great brain. I hope Davi...

Steve, can I float this one to the surface again ? The link to the NRG product you used, Funky something or other, doesn’t hook up any more, and I expect the products have changed over the years. Would you be able to identify the NRG hub that you used, or would use if you were doing it again, please...

Re: Hose from inlet manifold to bulkhead

Might be delicate electrolytic pairing, the brass and the aluminium, although the manifold temperature sensor and the thermostat seem to survive ......... and as the steel original tends to weld itself to the aluminium anyway, the brass might be no worse a choice :scratchheadyellow:

Re: Hose from inlet manifold to bulkhead

Yes, Tim, that's definitely the way to go ; having the step-down in diameters at the manifold rather than at the bulkhead pipe will make zero difference to the flow through there.

Can you put the Ebay-link up, and a picture of it installed perhaps ?
