Re: Restoration finish of suspension wishbones
I’m not sure about “original colours “ but if you go down the plating route be aware of the term “Hydrogen Embrittlement “ I have seen a wishbone with a long crack in it. Personally I’d go for the best longevity finish..then you know that the next owner gets all of the pleasure from your endeavous… ...

Re: Preparing for restoration and paint
I used to own a soda blasting Co and had many requests for remediation for all models. One thing to remember is that you can opt to remove the paint and deal with the rot separately or you can do a combined job and kill two birds with one blast gun.. Soda blasting doesn’t remove rust, except ...

Re: Garage Floor Tiles
Alan I tried these tiles,, of the appropriate industrial grade, on my new floor. They were quite pretty and pleasant to walk on but to work on they were less than optimal! They moved easily when rolled over by a laden trolley jack, which became much harder to move itself. Anything that sits on them ...

Re: Spares Day ???
As a pair of S3 owners we frequently do the autojumbles and spares days together, this year was no different. We arrived in good time and as blue badge holders we were directed “around the back by the cafe)”. On our way there we saw an elderly chap pushing a wheelchair across the rough grass making ...

Re: S3 OTS body jig dims
Thanks Bill, this is the sort of thing I am coming across. I posted the query because some of the dimensions I’ve taken do not agree with the book,, only simple ones so far!. I have set up a multi laser system down to 0.5mm, but I’ve a feeling this is very much overkill given 70’s assembly technique...

S3 OTS body jig dims
Could one of the members kindly send me a link to a diagram or list of dimensions of the body please.
Mounting points, reference points, distance between chassis features…. That sort of thing .
I want to check a few things before it’s off to the spray booth!
Thanks in advance.
Peter.

Re: Chrome plating rims
Layne, thanks for your Interest, the question of batch plating is THE question.!!
If I have to work/drive with 95% wheels then so be it ...I'm not going for a concourse car, im an oily rag guy and want a nice "driver"... one has to try.
Once again thanks for your reply to this mundane topic.

Chrome plating rims
Can anyone suggest a firm that can re-plate S3 steel rims to a good standard, I’m finding quite a few places that I’ve used before will not do it because they can’t guarantee the quality of the finish in the deep well of the front face. I realise that the anode needs to “throw” into the little dark ...

6 litre engine.
Hello forum members, I’m still looking for ways to upgrade my S3 OTS and my desire is to eliminate as much of the “stuff” that hangs around the top of the engine, such as distributer, air pipes valves and allied things, if you follow my drift! I’ve been offered a 6l v12, from a Daimler double six, s...

Re: Calling all Opalescent Gunmetal owners
I just would like to add “two pennuth” I have an S3 in azure blue, no problem with tiny road chips,..camel hair brush and that’s it. Currently in bits but going back to Azure! My friend has an S3 in OG painted by the PO he curses endlessly about stone chips, no matter how carefully he tries he can’t...
