I’ve had two nights sleep on it. This is the third day of trying.

Just tried a ring spanner on the piston then cabletie and circlip and tapped that. Didn’t work and has marked the piston a bit so won’t try that again.

So the only thing left is to try the drink.

Yes tried with pressure and tapping a spanner on the piston at tHe same time. I had the compressor up to 10bar with a tube held into the cylinder by hand internal cylinder pressure wouldn’t have been 10. Think I’ll fashion a tapped attachment to directly pressure the cylinder and try that. Will get ...

Keith - glad you got it sealed. Those sorts of issues can often take a while to do because it’s not such as small job.

Couldn’t you also say the same about the head gasket but I’d be surprised if silicone is used there by many people.

I’m replacing the inlet manifold gasket.

The removed one seems to have some kind of sealant on it.

Does anyone have a recommendation of what type of sealant to use?

Should it be used on one or both sides?

This is for a 1970 S2 2+2.

Sorry to ask such as basic question but it’s been a while since I worked on this engine. Any pointers much appreciated as it seems to be a gap in the books I have.

I can’t seem to find in any manuals whether the banjo should be soldered on or needs welding in with aluminium rod. What’s he best way to attach the banjo to the fuel line? (Which I assume is aluminium given its weight and malleablity). Thanks for your help

I seem to remember it was a modification for access through the boot floor. That may have been for the handbrake calliper. It was a long time ago so I may be misremembering.
