Re: No spark

I don't think it will be incorrect wiring to the connectors as I have had the car for 17 years and it was working fine for the last 16.5  I'm assuming that there is an internal problem with the switch that is shorting out 12v feed to coil when starter operated. have ordered a switch that I a...

Re: Will Lucas 39415 Ignition switch fit S2?

Great thanks for the confirmation - I'm glad the failure of my switch was not a hair raising as yours! Yes, I have and it worked fine. I burnt the original one out 7 years ago by running an ecu through it. Too many amps for the switch. Discovered the problem when the barrier raised into the Channel ...

Re: Will Lucas 39415 Ignition switch fit S2?

Yes steering lock is fine, the switch is not allowing 12v feed to coil when starter motor operated so need new switch - I understand switch is held in place with a single screw That looks like what I had to use to replace an old switch on my S2. However a bit of searching under the Lucas code can fi...

Will Lucas 39415 Ignition switch fit S2?

Its hard to determine precisely which Lucas switch was fitted originally to my 5 June 1969 build S2 with a Britax lock assembly but wondering if anyone has had success using a 39415 - it is listed as one of the switches used in S2 production but keen to hear some practical experience

Re: No spark

Update Car is now started by attaching direct feed from battery to coil input. Once engine started and warm it will re start without the direct 12v feed but only does so as you stop cranking the starter. There is 12v measured at the coil without the additional direct feed when ignition is on. Sugges...

No spark

Hi there - its been a long while since I last posted and I’m hoping for some help - my 1969 UK spec FHC has no spark at the plugs and therefore won’t start and I would much appreciate some help. For various reasons the car has been cared for by a friend living 150 miles away for the last couple of y...

Great, that was perfect, all done. I suspect that the fell off because I lowered the jack too far, which seems to push the spring clips off......

Re: S2 Overheating - Failed water pump???

Problem fixed. The water pump was in fact fine. It was that there was inadequate coolant in the system due to an air pocket. Turns out there was only 5 litres in the system out of the required 15. The problem started when I had a failed expansion tank cap which let out loads of coolant as steam. I w...

Metalifacture jack - Knurled screw and Spring Clips

At the weekend I had cause to inspect my jack in the S2 FHC. I'm pretty sure it is the original Metalifacture jack. At the bottom of the bag I found the knurled circular disc that you can use to raise and lower the jack, plus 2 spring clips, which presumably are designed to secure aforementsioned kn...

S2 Overheating - Failed water pump???

Hi there, its been a while since posting..... My S2 recently started showing higher temp than usual on the gauge (but not into red and steam was escaping from expansion tank filler cap. The cap was very old so I replaced it with a new 7ib one. Then steam started escaping from the radiator filler cap...

Re: Intermittent Clutch Slip

In my limited experience if it slips it's either oil on the driven plate or it's worn out. I'd ensure that the hydraulics are ok first (flush, replace both cylinders etc). You might get lucky. As you say, if the thrust bearing is worn and the slave doesn't compensate you'd expect it to incompletely...

Intermittent Clutch Slip

A friend has just acquired a very nice S1 2+2 and he says that "sometimes" when giving it a bootfull at low revs the clutch slips although it is not all the time. I have not driven the car however the clutch pedal movement feels very strange, not a smooth consistent pressure going to the floor but m...

Replacing headliner in an already trimmed car

My headliner is sagging and I am feeling brave....the interior trim is otherwise OK. I am wondering if it is feasible to just replace the headlining while all the other trim elements are in situ? Concerned about getting glue on the existing components however am hoping with judicious use of masking ...

If you ask one of the Jag people in Sydney who they use I'm sure they will be able to do them.
Alternatively you can buy a set of cones or modify an old knockoff hub.
But I will check with Cummins who they use....

Yes Andrew I am going to do that but I am struggling to find anyone in Sydney who knows how to do wire wheels properly. The modern dynamic balancers apparently cant handle wires......

The steering wheel shake is only 60-70mph at all other speeds smoooooth

Wave washer S2 Steering Column

My steering column has noticeable play. When I dismantled it a cleaned it years ago I don't recall any wave washer at the bottom. I now understand a wave washer is required to put pre load on the lower tapered roller berarings. The XKE Books illustrated S2 partes maanual does not show an exploded pa...
