Re: How to set camber, caster and toe-in DIY ?

I just bought the Gunson version - there are lots of 13 Euro chinese ones on ebay, I am not sure how precise they are. The first to look a bit better is Asta A-mcg, but this costs the same as the gunson „used as new from amazon“ version I bought, 31 Euros. Normally, the gunson one is 50 Euros. So, l...

How to set camber, caster and toe-in DIY ?

I have to fine tune the front axle at least to a point where I could seriously take the car to a shop. I don‘t want them to put hours and hours on the bill because of the complexity- I want to be near a proper result when I go there. Not perfect, but near. Now, I asked myself how to do it. Toe- in: ...

Re: Series 1 2+2 values

Yes, I just tested the „real people“ thing with a 15 yr old who happens to be 1.96 mtrs in size, and having a partially stiffened spline. He fits, and even said its comfy in the S1 seats. He missed headrests, and the book shelves make it a bit tight. But then, fit such a Longwood in the FHC. Or in a...

I have the same on my S1 2+2 (Pete‘s shell). Pete once told me not to paint the car in a bright colour, because it would look like it‘s wearing a small hat then....so I stuck with dark blue.

Re: Bonnet wont stay up on its own

I read somewhere you can pre-adjust the spring arm mechanism, it has long holes to be slid up and down. Yours truely has still to understand how it works, but that seems a way to go, maybe together with new springs. Furthermore it is often said that bondo filled bonnets do not stay open, I guess it ...

Re: Can anybody identify this manifold??

I am no pro, but I think it is too angular to come from an E-Type. Mine look more flat on the lower end (been there 2 hours ago to fit the rattle plates, err, torsion bar shields).

Don‘t the spinners say „offside“ or „passenger side“ or something like that ? Interesting when your car is an LHD....

Re: Decoding Triplex glass numbers ?

My car lived in Georgia. Would that qualify for a tinted front screen ? I can however hardly see a Dealer Upgrade. Any dealer would have asked whilst taking the order, so that the factory would deliver as requested. Maybe another way round: option a- only full tinted was available, all 6 glasses or ...

With upcoming Brexit I believe the UK market is cooling down, let alone an LHD car...

Maybe you have to adjust the asking price.

Re: Has any got one of these please?

Sadly in the US. Shipping is expensive. What material is it ? If its not metal and the replica is „plastic but more solid“, only cardboard or something like that is left in my mind. Pressed wood particles plus glue from „The Midlands“ ? Which takes me to the point wether it would be sensible to buy ...

Re: Where do those alloy shields go ?

Oh I have a wide assortment of hammers for this purpose.... ;-) Thanks - I will fit it there. Then, the rear LH TBS is no longer available at SNG. Does anyone have an idea where to find it ? I thought about buying the long FHC, non 2+2- Version, because I have a standard exhaust- it should fit. If n...

Re: shipwright's disease

How is it called when you re - fit the original, old, slightly distorted dash undertrays to your restored 2+2 because you think it will add character to your car ? Or keep the car‘s soul in it, whatever that is ?

Re: Decoding Triplex glass numbers ?

I found with some surprise that my car has received a new windshield in its former life. It is etched „Shatt-R-Proof, tinted“. Safety Plate AS1 LS6. So, the rest of the car being clear I think, at some time it had cracked the factory item, and it was replaced with the shatterproof one. Which was the...

Re: Where do those alloy shields go ?

Maybe it is a silly question, but - does the lower L part of the torsion bar shields face outwards ? Seen from the drivers seat, it would be that : _I Engine sump here I_ ? This would mean the torsion bars are in fact free - and the frame is shielded of from the torsion bars (or did the think stones...

Hi Bud,

Would AS1 mean clear glass and AS2 tinted /green, then ?

April 1966 would fit to the other data I have about the car. Thats nice.

Re: Where do those alloy shields go ?

I found this SNG diagram, this solves most of the puzzle: https://www.sngbarratt.com/de/#!/Deutsch/FindParts/Families/XKE%20~2F%20E-Type/3/77/all/1/10/1/viewassembly/19739/:Unter%20den%20Armaturen%20für%20die%20Motorhaube Seems the inspection plate changed over the years, the SNG drawing shows a dif...
