Re: Windscreen surround

Which glue did you use to attach it ?

I thought about Sikaflex 221, as on the bonnet, but then, if I ever want to remove them again from the car, only a nuclear attack could get it off I believe.

Originally, I found a tar-ish substance, still gooey after 50+ yrs.

Series 1.5: rubber sound deadener inside bonnet under paint?

Hi guys, I did remove all the old paint and rust from my S1.5 bonnet, using an angle grinder plus a wire disc. It took a few hours. Now, maybe an interesting find was, that on the rear end of the bonnet the primer / the layer below the paint on the INSIDE of the bonnet became thicker and thicker. In...

Re: Rear bonnet grille

Hi Bob, I answered your PM, but pardon me, I did not see your picture before. So, this is indeed a bit tricky, and I see no easy way out here either. What you can try is to hammer yours flat and re - bend it, or cut the base of just above the flat lower part, and re-weld. It needs metal work to make...

Re: Rear bonnet grille

Hi Bob, I sent you a PM. Regarding the distance between those studs, its 11.5 cm, on both of my grilles, S3 and S1/2. The retainer plate is present in my car, though it is not screwed in place, it sits inside the stiffener plus it is glued on top, inside the bonnet bulge. So, this was changed at lea...

Re: Rear bonnet grille

Ah-ha ! One of my grilles has traces of circumferal scratches caused by those !

Isn‘t it in fact car-archeology what we‘re doing here ? :yellow:

Now, sourcing them is impossible, correct ? I don‘t even have a name for them...not even in german.

Different under bonnet heater scoops ?

It seems that the under bonnet heater intake scoops seem to be different between at least the S1 and the S1 2+2. The version for the S1 seems to be around 95 Euros, BD 19730, link: https://www.sngbarratt.com/de/#!/Deutsch/FindParts/Families/XKE%20~2F%20E-Type/3/81/all/1/10/1/viewassembly/21041/:BONN...

Re: Rear bonnet grille

Thanks Geoff - I have seen something like that, maybe on my Hillman Imp ? Years ago. I searched SNG, and they offer a „Spire clip“. I‘ll put two on my next order list. https://www.sngbarratt.com/de/#!/Deutsch/parts/318e6fdc-c31f-404a-95bf-7a9b3f6cd0ae Question is why one of them has no tabs ? And wi...

Re: Rear bonnet grille

Hi Simon, Had a look today- yes, there are holes. But see the two grilles in detail: one never had the tabs, the other one has a stamped makers logo near the tabs: http://up.picr.de/32396841bi.jpg http://up.picr.de/32396842jk.jpg I can only guess - the tab-less one is a chinese repro. No logo, no ta...

Re: Rear bonnet grille

Hi Simon, Ok, so the older version has tabs, and the younger has none ? Or is maybe a cheap repro ? Hm, so I have to find out how to fix it using only studs. I have no idea where to source those nuts. The car came without the grille. It has the metal plate with the round holes behind the grille. Car...

Door cards probably too long ?

Hi guys, My both door cards (selfmade) seem to be too long. They interfere with the capping that runs vertically on the B pillar front edge. I can now either remoove the capping (nope, the weld seam will be visible then), or cut the door card shorter. So here‘s the question- is the door card so shor...

Rear bonnet grille

Hi all, How is the rear grille fixed ? Reason for asking is that I have two: One has 2 „centre“ bolts and good chrome, the other one has the same „bolts“ but also two tabs on the lower side, and bad chrome. I guess these cannot be rechromed reasonably, so I tend to use the one with the better chrome...

Well, Now you all know why Erich Honecker, the last leader of the German Democratic Republic (what a name for what it actually was, orwellian as could-be) had quiet a bunch of ... Citroen CX. He knew his roads... So, what is a proper response ? Buy an antique Citroen, like DS, CX, SM. Or maybe a Hyd...

Re: Where to fit those 2 guys ?

Today I had a look and found the spot. Many thanks for helping me, I‘ll re‘ fit them there when time has arrived. Today I started priming another small parts batch, and glued in the remaining flanges. Next is to re-glue the wing stiffeners / flanges, its all loose, only kept in place because they ar...

How would you re-glue the bonnet rear centre stiffener ?

I mean the horizontal bar. Its welded left and right, and the sheet metal on mine is mainly detached. My thinking was to drill the spotwelds all - through, and maybe make some 4 more in the centre section, all, say, M5. Then take it off, the drilled holes will allow exact re-positioning. Clean and r...

...I‘ll dig in there tomorrow- Plan is to finish the glue works, then let it sit for another 3 days, then take it apart and primer it.

Hm, that is near the radiator stoneguard frame. I‘ll have a look for holes that would fit nearby.

Thanks !

Where to fit those 2 guys ?

Hi,

Where inside the bonnet are the two „ashtrays“ to be fitted ?

Blasted and zinced, possibly better then new:

Re: Newbie

I know this kind of plan from the Citroen SM. It´s called a Service plan in germany, and they were hung in garages, to show the mechs where to grease what and when.

Nice find!

Okay I think I know that stuff- it´s called Armaflex? Black foam used to insulate air ducts and similar in buildings.

Or do you have a product name so I could compare?
