Re: Going to Australia this summer

Is there a pet against the „grey nomads“ as well ? They keep coming up north, and are clogging all the camping sites....hard to find a powered site everyday...

Re: Going to Australia this summer

Oh most of them are very friendly. Way more then in germany. Just came back from Aldi this morning, the cashier was a nice guy, talking a bit- if you can get a permission to live here, maybe when we‘re all old farts, do so. My wife said she would, and that means a lot. Plus it seems that, compared t...

Re: Going to Australia this summer

I have not found any problems yet, no spiders no snakes. Been to Fraser Island yesterday, no worries, all fine. Seen a Dingo on the beach, he was interested in our bag pack which we left behind, but shy, so off he went when approached him. There are 25 million Aussies here, so if they can cope, so c...

Re: Going to Australia this summer

Hey guys, We‘re in the middle of it - after 5 days of Jetlag and meeting Susanne‘s family in Adelaide, we went through the outback by car, tried the giant Burgers at Erldunda for example, and are now in Sydney. Did the harbor tour, Opera house, and Manly beach. Tomorrow we‘ll have a look at the Powe...

Re: Time for a divorce?

The housing bubble will implode. You cannot create wellfare by printing money out of thin air, not for a long time. Short time illusion, yes.

Keep the car, the kids have their own lives to live, and giving them money to shovel it into an overheated market is no good idea.

Re: Not having a good day...

Looks like 3rd over-bore + a skimmed deck and possibly skimmed head ? Did you go for 8:1 pistons or 9:1 as original? I guess that -others may chime in- 9:1 will give you pinging troubles later, the compression becomes too high if you take all the changes into account. There‘s an excel chart by Ray L...

Re: Scratched windscreen repair

Hi Mark, Seems you found the solution for my problem :-), one of my two screens (not fitted yet) may be saveable this way. I‘ll upload a picture in a few days, maybe you could help me judging wether it looks reparieable with the kit? Do you see any distortions ? I think the glass must be thinner now...

Re: Front valance oblong plug?

I admit to be guilty here, and left the path of orginality. I simply used my welder and closed the darn hole. Why? I will never fit that rod nor the mechanism, I‘m going for a stick-on number plate. So, water would enter there, and there‘s no use for it. After about 5 minutes with my welder....job d...

Re: Series 1 2+2 values

You don‘t really want higher values. It makes your / our hobby harder, because you then have to pay more for the insurance etc., and possibly parts prices et. The average family man, for whom the 2+2 was developed / designated becames squeezed out of the market. I could never afford my E-Type today....

Re: Series 1 2+2 values

Exactly my car - March 1966 S1 2+2 LHD, manual, triple carbs, full resto. Dark blue in my case, black interior. All new. Now - I am really interested in numbers as well - if someone has an idea? I would not give it away below 60.000 Euros. If you take a look at the german market, it is going strong....

Re: Windscreen surround

Which glue did you use to attach it ?

I thought about Sikaflex 221, as on the bonnet, but then, if I ever want to remove them again from the car, only a nuclear attack could get it off I believe.

Originally, I found a tar-ish substance, still gooey after 50+ yrs.

Series 1.5: rubber sound deadener inside bonnet under paint?

Hi guys, I did remove all the old paint and rust from my S1.5 bonnet, using an angle grinder plus a wire disc. It took a few hours. Now, maybe an interesting find was, that on the rear end of the bonnet the primer / the layer below the paint on the INSIDE of the bonnet became thicker and thicker. In...

Re: Rear bonnet grille

Hi Bob, I answered your PM, but pardon me, I did not see your picture before. So, this is indeed a bit tricky, and I see no easy way out here either. What you can try is to hammer yours flat and re - bend it, or cut the base of just above the flat lower part, and re-weld. It needs metal work to make...

Re: Rear bonnet grille

Hi Bob, I sent you a PM. Regarding the distance between those studs, its 11.5 cm, on both of my grilles, S3 and S1/2. The retainer plate is present in my car, though it is not screwed in place, it sits inside the stiffener plus it is glued on top, inside the bonnet bulge. So, this was changed at lea...

Re: Rear bonnet grille

Ah-ha ! One of my grilles has traces of circumferal scratches caused by those !

Isn‘t it in fact car-archeology what we‘re doing here ? :yellow:

Now, sourcing them is impossible, correct ? I don‘t even have a name for them...not even in german.
