Re: Has the S1 bonnet been painted as one piece?

...if you are re-painting it, it is no longer original anyway. So, if they did not paint the flanges properly, you could of course do the same. But it makes no sense. Its an expensive and rare toy, do the job properly. Mankind after you, the next custodians of the car will love you more if you did a...

Re: Jaguar XK-6 DOHC port/cylinder head analysis

I would reaaaly love to hear something about the Maserati C114 engine. It gave around 178 hp in 2.7 ltre shape, 180 to 190 in 3 ltre, and 220 in Merak SS and with huge valves (which usually broke). I can get measures - I never dyno‘ed my own car. Its base was a 3 ltre with broken pistons, so I had t...

Re: Has the S1 bonnet been painted as one piece?

Yes, this is what I just did. If you are good at painting, you may paint the inside of them all plus the small bits by yourself. I also did the outside of the front underpan, because I will take the whole car to the painter in 2 weeks or so. In my case the tub is painted, I am adapting it to the car...

Re: Covered headlamps - water tightness

You can put a Mini - E- Type in one of them, under the glass. Looks funny, people love it. Some Citroen SM folks do, the glass vitrine is huge in comparison, so you can put a Corgi or Matchbox SM in there. In the centre, near to the number plate. With an E, I think a smaller version would work... Ca...

Re: Anyone used Nankang Retro RC-001 tyres?

I‘m interested in your findings, although, as I now found, you can only do about 110 km/h, maybe a tad more behind Port Augusta and Coober Pedy, or 100 km before reaching Hawker :-)

Re: S1 3.8 bonnet mouth shape and dimensions (factory)

I think and fully understand that these shapes are some core part of his business. IF we could ever find a pristine virgin bonnet, we could make some from thick paper, digitize them. Then they could be e-mailed and printed in a local CAD copy shop for some money. Glue the printouts on thick paper, c...

Re: S1 3.8 bonnet mouth shape and dimensions (factory)

I know that Chuck from MM has a set of longitudinal shapes, but he won‘t sell or send them (if I understood it correctly). Then there are the inside parts, the long ducts. There front tips fit neatly inside the curve, so if they are fully „flat“ I would expect them to describe the curvature you need...

Re: Going to Australia this summer

Oh most of them are very friendly. Way more then in germany. Just came back from Aldi this morning, the cashier was a nice guy, talking a bit- if you can get a permission to live here, maybe when we‘re all old farts, do so. My wife said she would, and that means a lot. Plus it seems that, compared t...

Re: Going to Australia this summer

I have not found any problems yet, no spiders no snakes. Been to Fraser Island yesterday, no worries, all fine. Seen a Dingo on the beach, he was interested in our bag pack which we left behind, but shy, so off he went when approached him. There are 25 million Aussies here, so if they can cope, so c...

Re: Going to Australia this summer

Hey guys, We‘re in the middle of it - after 5 days of Jetlag and meeting Susanne‘s family in Adelaide, we went through the outback by car, tried the giant Burgers at Erldunda for example, and are now in Sydney. Did the harbor tour, Opera house, and Manly beach. Tomorrow we‘ll have a look at the Powe...

Re: Time for a divorce?

The housing bubble will implode. You cannot create wellfare by printing money out of thin air, not for a long time. Short time illusion, yes.

Keep the car, the kids have their own lives to live, and giving them money to shovel it into an overheated market is no good idea.

Re: Not having a good day...

Looks like 3rd over-bore + a skimmed deck and possibly skimmed head ? Did you go for 8:1 pistons or 9:1 as original? I guess that -others may chime in- 9:1 will give you pinging troubles later, the compression becomes too high if you take all the changes into account. There‘s an excel chart by Ray L...

Hi Mark, Seems you found the solution for my problem :-), one of my two screens (not fitted yet) may be saveable this way. Re: Front valance oblong plug?

I admit to be guilty here, and left the path of orginality. I simply used my welder and closed the darn hole. Why? I will never fit that rod nor the mechanism, I‘m going for a stick-on number plate. So, water would enter there, and there‘s no use for it. After about 5 minutes with my welder....job d...

Re: Series 1 2+2 values

You don‘t really want higher values. It makes your / our hobby harder, because you then have to pay more for the insurance etc., and possibly parts prices et. The average family man, for whom the 2+2 was developed / designated becames squeezed out of the market. I could never afford my E-Type today....
