S1 4.2 seats

Hi all, can anyone advise if the seats on the S1 4.2 can be reclined any further through adjustment, or are they fixed? I couldn't see anything on the outside that would allow adjustment. Additionally, has anyone tried to lower the seats in any way to obtain more headroom in an FHC? Many thanks.

Radio Console - S1 4.2

Hi all, I am have purchased a new frame for the radio console on my S1 4.2, as a prior owner had installed a homemade item. A couple of queries I would appreciate some advice on: - how does the metal faceplate attach to the frame? It has four pins (photo below) which engage into four holes in the fr...

Temperature

Hi all, my S1 4.2 is back on the road after an engine rebuild. It has an 82 degree thermostat and an after market electric fan. Where does the temp guage tend to sit in normal running? Mine is sitting just below the 90 degree mark, is this normal? I have a standard radiator, water pump etc. I am awa...

Exhaust system

Hi all, my S1 4.2 has just come out of an engine rebuild and now has lightly modified heads and fast road cams. The Jaguar specialist who rebuilt the motor advised me that I have non standard front mufflers which are very restrictive, and suggested changing these. Has anyone fitted a big bore exhaus...

Re: Instrument rims

Thanks everyone for the replies - I'll try rubbing them down and repainting before I look at new ones.

Instrument rims

Hi all, the black rims on the instruments of my S1 4.2 are in poor shape, with bubbling paint and pitting. The instruments themselves are all in good shape. Does anyone know if it possible to purchase new rims? I have looked on line but could not locate anything. Many thanks.

Re: Nearly there

Looks great. I have the same colour E Type a few steps behind you! This started off as a tune up to solve a misfire...which revealed a valve problem...once the head was off everything else looked tired so it was an engine rebuild....followed by an engine bay repaint and front suspension refresh. The...

Anti Roll Bar

Hi all, with the engine rebuild on my S1 4.2 FHC coming together I am looking over the front suspension while the engine is out. The front anti roll bar has been hit at some time and is bent. Would anyone recommend fitting an uprated bar - and if so, what size would be suggested? It is for a road ca...

Engine Rebuild 4.2

Hi all, I am about to embark on an engine rebuild on my S1 4.2. Are there any recommended mods or upgrades that I should consider when doing the rebuild? Many thanks.

Engine Temperatures

Hi all, I am working through my recently acquired S1 4.2 and am interested to know what thermostats are typically fitted to S1's, and what temps the engine fans are set to come on. My car appears to have an 82 degree thermostat with the fan set to cut in at 90 - is this normal? (its an aftermarket f...

What trim colour?
It’s an incontrovertible fact that Opalescent Golden Sand is the best colour for an E-Type.
Hi, the trim colour is tan.

Re: Steering Wheel

Thanks Andrew - I had no idea the wheel had any adjustment at all - but by moving it toward me that had made a big difference. I'll stick with the standard wheel for now and see how it goes.

Thanks all for your help!

Hello from New Zealand

Hello all, I have just purchased my first E Type, an S1 4.2 FHC in Golden Sand, here in New Zealand. It have just returned from a 2000km round trip to trailer it home - its in good order but has done minimal mileage in recent years so a trailer was the safe bet. Looking forward to learning more from...

Steering Wheel

Hi all, I have just bought my first E Type, an S1 4.2 FHC. Its original steering wheel is in poor shape and in need of refurbishment. I am quite tall and find it hits my legs. I note that Mota Lita do an E Type wood rim wheel in 14, 15 and 16 inch. 14 inch is appealing as it would make it easier for...
