Re: windscreen wipers rest position

Seems the factory tells us just how they should be positioned - low on the glass, parallel to the lower edge:

Re: 4 post car stacker for 2 cars

We were recently looking at new houses and one was using single post lifts to store 6 cars in a fairly small garage. They certainly take up a lot less space than 4 post or even 2 post. Examples here:

Re: BROWNS LANE PHOTO 14 JULY 1961

Chris, if you PM me your email address I'll send you a copy I have of that photo. I found it somewhere and did some cleanup in Lightroom to make it better - isn't super sharp but might work for your purposes.

Here are some photos of mine. The board looks like a nice birch ply.

Re: Optional Item: Passenger foot rest

I wanted one for my car too and being handy I thought I’d build it, but after looking around for the right Hardura and edge trimming I went ahead and purchased a custom footboard from Suffolk & Turley. It’s beautifully made and looks completely original, and the price was reasonable at around £90. I...

Re: Maintenance Chart: red or black?

There were black-only charts in the later S1 4.2 models, beginning with the E/145/1 printing.

Re: Paint or leave Aluminium?

You might consider having them powder coated. The undersides take a bit of a beating from stuff being thrown up from the front tires, and a good powder coat is a lot more durable than any paint.

Re: body plate - where do I buy it?

FYI, I just obtained a replacement plate from Todd, and it is very well done. He's very pleasant to deal with, and service was extremely quick. I recommend his work.

Re: Best type of exterior mirrors

I also use the frame mount mirrors and did pretty much the same modifications as David, and also cut a bit away on the bracket so it fit more cleanly. They've been rock solid. Although I'm not a big Concours person, I have participated in a couple, and the JCNA rules in the US would ding you for the...

Re: Side light lens

I'd like to follow up in this thread with some kudos for Marek's lenses. I recently ordered a set of the clear for my US-spec S1 4.2, and found the price to be very reasonable, the quality excellent, and his service was exceptional and fast. I entered my car in a JCNA Concours and ended up taking 1s...

Re: newb wondering what it takes to fit a V12

I cannot offer any details on performing such a swap, but I’m curious what you’re looking to achieve by doing this, Daniel. If you’re looking for more power, the V12 only had a few more HP than the 4.2 or 3.8 but added a lot of weight. You indicated you’re interested in a driver, but it seems this w...

Re: S1 (4.2) vs S3

Not too much of a surprise. The 4.2 and the S3 engines are nearly the same HP, but the S3 weighs 500lbs more.

Re: My Recent Driving Video

Thanks for the kind comments, Malcolm. I think the oil pressure is OK. The gauge shows about 10psi lower than actual (calibrated with a manual test gauge) and OP runs at least 2x the RPM when hot. Dave, I'm glad you discovered the little charms of Julian, and stumbling on those types of places is al...

My Recent Driving Video

Being confined at home for most of the time, I thought this would be a good opportunity to learn how to make a video, something I've never done before, and a little drive in the E Type seemed to be the perfect subject. In Southern California we've been allowed out to get food and groceries and other...

Re: Engine Temperatures

Before making any changes or modifications to anything, I'd suggest you verify the temperature first. The gauge and senders are notoriously inaccurate, perhaps not by large number of degrees but certainly within the range you're concerned about. You could spend a lot of time changing thermostat and ...

Would there be any chance that someone involved with this could stand up a camera and put it out as a webcast? I'd love to be there too, but am about 6000 miles too far away.
