Re: Camshaft question
Thanks Andrew for the comprehensive info there and Robsan for the wiring link. I did go ahead and fit the plates yesterday. Having read all the various posts, including some of yours Andrew, I decided to drill very carefully to just get enough depth for the screw length, without breaking through int...

Re: Camshaft question
Thanks Steve
Needed to fit the hold-down plates as the tappet guides were lifting - at least 3 of them have been touching the cam lobes! The sprockets appear to be the good ones.
The gaps do vary, but are all between .004 & 006, so I'll have to look into changing the shims.

Camshaft question
Hi all. I've found many posts on here and jag-lovers about the various camshafts and have seen the Georgiajag guide, which explains the differences, however my 1970 4.2 'original' engine has a 4-hole cam on the exhaust side with the groove around the flange (haven't checked the other side yet), whic...

Hi Richard Your first picture looks familiar!!! All the ally panels on mine were very mangled and coated with a thick layer of oily road dirt. https://i.postimg.cc/W35r0drs/IMG-20200525-155330.jpg Managed to straighten and clean them up. Guessed the angle to be about 45 deg, as they fitted OK at that.

Does the petrol tank have to come out to get to the left hand marker - especially if welding around there?

Re: Vacuum retard distributor
Looks like you've opened another can of worms, Phil!!! Does drilling the top of the carb do the same job as the tube take off underneath the front carb, which mine already has and seems to be open? Assume I've got a 'vacuum retard' dizzy, like you, but as my car is auto, there's a slightly different...

Re: opinion on e type for sale please
It actually looks in better condition than the sills on my US import!!! As Andrew said, it's probably flaky sealer/underseal covering dents in the sill. My car has bigger dents in those same panels from where it has presumably been picked up by a fork lift plus some dodgy repairs in the past :questi...

Re: Steering rack rebuild or buy a new one?
Hi Joe
Had mine rebuilt by Propowersteering in Thurrock, Essex - http://propowersteering.co.uk/
Very quick service and cost about £300 just over a year ago. Has been working fine since.
Can't remember if yours is still LHD, but I have a spare worn out rack that you might be able to use for parts

Re: Late series 2 air filter.
Thanks guys - had seen those sites and various others but no-one seems to list the oval type for Strombergs.
Tim - according to the Lynx site they're RF452S-2 https://www.lynxauto.com.au/catalog/pro ... gory/1531/
Am trying to get shipping costs from them anyway.

Re: Late series 2 air filter.
Thanks for the picture, Tim. Are they the RF400 type - can't seem to find any UK supplier at the moment or did you get them directly from Lynx? There are some copy versions from a US supplier, but works out about the same price as the real thing! Still need to do the inner butterfly modification and...

I'd like to see them, please, Tim.
Looks like I'll have to go that route if they clear the chassis rail.

Re: Late series 2 air filter.
Hi Phil By coincidence, just yesterday I received a pair of K&N Filters, but on trying to fit them found the front one will not go over the chassis rail (by at least half an inch) I'm leaving mine as LHD, however also trying to replace the standard box air filter, like yours for something more...

Thanks Robbie & Giovanni. Todd had already sent me a S1 tag, which was too small. Just need to find out when they changed to the larger one.

Re: body plate - where do I buy it?
I'm in contact with Todd about making a tag for my car, however we weren't aware there are 2 sizes of these tags, so he is tooling up to make the S2 & 3 ones, which are larger and bigger digit size. Can anyone confirm that all Series 1 have tags approx 62mm (2.45") long, with holes 54mm (2.125") apa...

Re: washer bottle help
Big thank you to Richard (Monkeyfinger) for producing an alternative pump kit that fits inside the original S2 bottle & motor cover. It's been tested on my Series 2 LHD coupe and, with the added help of a non-return valve in the pipe near the bonnet hinge, gives a good supply of water out of the twi...
