Re: Dizzy - Plugs - leads
It's from a XJS or XJ12, so most people on this list would likely be unaware of its existence, whereas Philip Lochner is very familiar with the later fuel injected v12s as he has converted several to be run by Megasquirt. Thank you Marek. I think it's time I took the car to someone who knows what t...

Re: Dizzy - Plugs - leads
Update. I readjusted plug gaps and the pinking is sorted. I had left them a little bit wide, as that's what the previous ones were, but nipping them down to the 25thou solved the pinking. I'm yet to tackle the vacuum conundrum. I've read the monster thread here in the forum. manifold Vs ported, I wo...

Re: Starter motor problems
Ha, after 42 years of ownership my starter failed. I took it to the last remaining Lucas rebuild shop Jay Electrics Surrey outer London. Windings were shot. They rebuilt mine. Adam, I always read your posts with interest, you have a pragmatic and financially sensible approach.. You must have develo...

Re: Dizzy - Plugs - leads
Hence I'm considering the switch over, as Im in for a new vacuum unit anyway..
So far, the 'aint broke" rule is working. I've replaced plugs and leads and I have managed to restore the pinking under strong acceleration that I had cured by tuning the old setup

Re: Dizzy - Plugs - leads
Retrofitting a vacuum advance system was a popular mod for v12e’s, whenever the impact on starting and idle was considered negligible or tolerable for the benefits (economy, reduced heat, reliability). Requires changing the vacuum tapping point. My friend that also owns a V12 e had often mentioned ...

Re: Dizzy - Plugs - leads
Thanks Andrew and Colin, Andrew, I'm not by the sea, I'm in Westminster London, but the car is a daily driver and parked outside year round, what I've spent on rust prevention I could probably rent a garage  - But it seems none of the 3 reputable mechanics I've taken her to for servicing has ev...

Dizzy - Plugs - leads
Car is running great. I rebuilt the fuel pump last week due to failure there, everything is sweet and purring like a kitten, theres always been a slight wobble at idle like a V8, carbs are tuned well enough I believe, maybe timing miss? I don't know, it's never bothered me, doesn't impact driving, a...

Re: Removing headrests
Just for anyones info looking to replace headrest foams and, like me, not relishing the idea of removing the seats and getting fancy with needlework. I have just managed to replace both headrest foams on my S3 2+2 without removing the headrests. Pull the headrests up, undo the 2 screws holding the p...

Re: Seen this morning near Leicester Square
Guilty! :salute: On my way to work with wife in pax seat and son in the +2. Have since fitted Black/Silver plates and replaced the brake bulb. still need to sort out the saggy back end (on the car). Mechanically sorted, this is my daily driver, don't own another car :D Funnily enough I was looking f...

Webasto Roof Repair
Howdy folks, my Webasto roof vinyl has shrunk to the point the spars are poking out on one side, it also looks like the metal cable running the length has failed. Thankfully it still doesn't leak, but I'm sure that's up next. Anyone have a hint for who repairs these? A couple of years back when I fi...

Re: Door Drain Hole Shroud
Thanks Steve, I did see that post. They don't look too different to the S1 shrouds which I have. So perhaps I was right in my first hunch when I looked at my doors, the drain is not the hole in the panel, but the raised bump near the door skin, the hole then is used for fixing the shroud. Looks like...

Re: Door Drain Hole Shroud
Did you ever get to a solution for this, is there an S3 shroud available? I have shrouds for an S1 randomly, obviously, they don't fit the S3. My car is kept outside :( so footwell swimming pool is avoided by use of the revolutionary early Swedish designed, MK1 IKEA sill towel - Does anyone have a p...

Re: S3 Fuel Expansion Tank
I believe our UK car just vents to the filler cap enclosure, there's what I had assumed to be a drain hole in the corner of the enclosure, apparently theres a pipe running from that near the filler neck, to I guess the expansion tank (all missing on mine).
Re: mPG
Peter,
Now I get what you're saying, that's actually quite an interesting concept

Re: mPG
Thanks Steve.. Good idea. Will do.
Re: mPG
I won't go hunting specifically for missing MPG, I'll get to it along the way - It's probably prudent for me to go through the carbs now anyway, and/or Im thinking of EFI or similar. What's the current school of thought on electronic ignition for these V12s, I see plenty of discussion on the forum. ...
Re: mPG
Thankfully oil price is dropping
Looks like I'll be getting chummy with the guys at the petrol station, I might see if I can open an account.
I wonder how it runs if I unplug half the HT leads

mPG
Well.. I just filled the tank for the second time and ran my calculation for MPG. I wasn't expecting too much, but I also wasn't expecting so little - a whopping 7.69 MPG! :seeingstars: - Hence the title mPG All city driving in stinky traffic, and I've been "enjoying" the V12 aplenty, but is there a...
