Re: Synchro mechanism

Harald,

Do you recall where you purchased the factory reverse idler shaft shown in your photos?

Thanks, Eric

Re: Synchro mechanism

Bill,

Do you sell your reverse idler shaft outside of Australia? I need to procure one (Dallas, Texas area). Perhaps you could PM me?

Thanks, Eric

Re: Purchase Help

Dan, I'd recommend that you contact the Rocky Mountain Jaguar Club (a JCNA member club) in Denver. Someone in that club will likely jump right on inspecting this car for you at no charge. I have a '64 FHC that's a ground up rebuild (it's in the classified section here). So I' have recent experience ...

Re: 63 Coupe project, Where to begin?

I referenced the following blog a fair amount when resurrecting my '64...the interior installation is in Section III.

Re: Manual Box with 2.88 Rear Axle

My '64 3.8 FHC is retrofitted with an EJ close ratio gearbox and a 3.07 final drive. While launches from stand still are reasonable, I definitely would not want a 2.88 with the first gear ratio in the EJ. That said, the EJ transmission is a delight on a curvy road.

Re: Best type of exterior mirrors

Cut the bottom out of the original bracket "U" and welded in a wider piece that was sized for the window channel (plus rubber spacers).

I might raise them higher on the frame to reduce eye/head movement when driving.

Re: Best type of exterior mirrors

This is a TEX offering from XKS/MOSS, and I believe SNG among others. I modified the mount bracket to fit over the forward edge of the window frame. It stays put with rubber inserts between the window frame and the brackets, but even if it came loose it would simply slide downward instead of bouncin...

Re: New Developments In Rear Crank Sealing

The Terry's Jaguar Parts seal kit uses a two part Viton seal that has been used successfully in millions of GM engines. It's a different approach than the SNG split seal/spring arrangement. So far it's a zero leak installation on my engine. Not saying it's better than the Beere's stretch seal, just ...

Re: Clip on door frame mirrors

These are TEX mirrors, which are available via XJs/Moss in the U.S. They look like the Fosseway items depicted earlier in the thread. I modified the mounting clips so that they could be turned around with the "U" facing to the rear for more security. The modification consisted of cutting out the bot...

Re: Wider rear wheels

I am considering installing 7 inch wide wheels on the rear of my 1970 OTS and wondered if rubbing issue would arise. If someone has done this successfully, what size tyres did you use? There are many archived threads regarding wheel/tire size, both on this site and on Jag-Lovers. Fitment depends on...

Re: Basic questions when buying an E Type. Question 1

I would suggest that a 3.8 E-type with its original engine and Moss gearbox is worth a significant premium +20%?) over an equivalent car without matching numbers (at least it is here in the States). Alan 20%!? Where did you get that info? For 20 % at sale time I'd consider swapping out the sweet sh...

Re: rolling road figures

I've always wondered how much power is produced by the JD Classis E-type that shows up at Goodwood....and specifically how the engine is built and tuned. Anybody have the secrets? Is it a 3.8? Which gearbox? Rear ratio? I did a search some years ago when they beat the Cobras, but didn't find much de...

Re: TYRE QUERY

I use Sumitomo 205/70 on the rear and 205/65 H/V rated on the front. Dayton six inch, center/hub laced wheels. The rears clear the bump stops, although I installed rubber stops on the shocks as I was hoping to use 215/65 on the rear. Unfortunately, the 215/65s on center laced wheels rubbed on the ou...

Re: 5 speed options

A 2.88 might be OK for a 4.2 engine and KE gearbox, but I would not want a 2.88 with a 3.8 engine and an EJ gearbox. The overall first gear ratio for launching from standstill is just OK with a 3.07.

Re: Oil pressure gauge replacement

Hi Eric.....what problems......i have one on the shelf waiting to fit...thanks....Steve The one I had would stop at about 20 psi until pressure in the engine built to 40 or 50, and then it would jump to maybe 30. I knew it was wrong because I had previously attached a spare mechanical Stewart Warne...

Re: Oil pressure gauge replacement

Problems have been reported with the "new" mechanical "Smiths" 0-100psi gauges sold by the usual suppliers. I returned the unreliable unit I had purchased and found a used 0-60 mechanical gauge from a Lotus Europa. It looks identical to the original electric item after exchanging the chrome bezel fo...

I have an Optima. Excellent performance for churning and starting the big lump on a car that is not on the road. I haven't quite worked out how to secure it in the car, but it does just fit in the space available. Some of us have used the tray type shown in the link below. I had to relieve the peri...
