Re: Gearbox help
Chris Where did I say you were wrong? Actually I would generally agree with the logic of mark 10 gearboxes having different gear ratios to an e type box And also logical that a different model would have different serial numbers on the box Especially if it had different gear ratios But as above ther...

The early mark 10 had a moss box with overdrive
This was changed to the all synchro when the 4.2 engine came out alongside the E type

Re: Gearbox help
Stuart I would guess along with the E type the 3.8 engine mark x cars also had EJ boxes Information is scarce on this and I only found 3 references to Mark x boxes having EJ boxes fitted And none of them official jaguar I think its just the early mark x cars that may have got them but I can only go ...

Re: Gearbox help
Chris
I went into some detail looking at numbers for gearboxes and my research came up with mark X indeed having EJ gearboxes
Are you confusing the later 420G?
The EJ was used in the 4.2 Mk10, whereas the JZN and KZN were used
in the later 420G cars, when delivered with a manual gearboxes

Re: Servo not working
Why are people taking things apart and fitting seal kits these days? Unless its for some originality reason on a car that goes to shows to be judged (and tbh I think safety over originality should come first) I just don't get it Thats something we used to do when we had no choice and certainly not o...

Re: Servo not working
If you have replaced the master cylinder and the complete servo and its attached slave master cylinder with new ones and you have vacume it should work This assumes all the rest of the pipework is clear and free of any muck And is attached correctly And there are no other issues in the braking syste...

Re: Gearbox help
If its EJ then it could be a MK 10 or an E-type
You would have to look at the other numbers to find out which
Went through all this recently with the couple of boxes I got with my car

Oil pressure
Finally putting some longer journeys on my E and quick question on oil pressure I've been using the car daily for a couple of weeks and went down to hailing Island the other day Probably 60 odd miles there Kind of went easy on the way down and no problems other than a blowing exhaust On way back pus...

Re: heater fan switch
Both at the same time is normal as far as I know on fast speed
My series 2 switch feeds both on fast
But one goes through a resistor so it just goes fast
Its seems strange but thats how mine is

Re: Engines
Actually there are many differences between the late and early 4.2 blocks The late series 3 xj6 engines have many technological upgrades over the early engines Internal water ways and cylinder head design just being two of them Jaguar overcame many design problems of the early engines in the later e...

Re: rear hubs clicking
I recently re built my IRS My rear splines had been locked with something that resembled lock tight They were locked solid I had to take them to a local engineering shop that had a 50 Tonn press They said even with that press they had to shock the shafts out due to fear of bending or breaking someth...

As I have mentioned before How much of that "Fully original" car, is fully original is up for speculation Probably find less than 20 percent is original And maybe even the whole car is a frankinstien Very hard to tell sometimes unless you can document its full history and what's been replaced A chas...
