Re: S1 Wire wheels
Thanks for posting the service bulletin I thought flat hubs were introduced much later. I am thinking of replacing the current curly hub chrome wire wheels as now over 20 years old. My carmen red OTS is very close to the original posters car, as built on May 1st 1967 chassis 1E1817. However the heri...
Re: Insurance
I was insured through footman james with jaguar enthusiast club "discount" between 2001 and 2018. The premiums started at under 300 GBP for a valuation of 40k in 2001 and rose to over 400GBP in 2018 always with around 200GBP excess which was fair enough as the car club valuation had climbed to 150k....

Re: Speedo recalibration
I would get in touch with Speedy Cables, They recalibrated and reconditioned a few of my previous MGB Speedos when I converted them to V8 spec using a higher ratio back axle. From memory you provide them with the number of turns of the speedo cable for one turn of the back wheel and the radius of th...

Re: Series 1 Seat back slipping / reclining
Just investigated, and I found that the block on the RHS had been positioned inadvertently in the upright position, swinging it back down to match the other side should have done the trick. There is much more land for the seat back to rest on in the more upright seat position, the witness marks show...

Re: Series 1 Seat back slipping / reclining
Thanks for the link,
So from the pic on the linked thread the blocks at the back of the seat can be swung back to provide the 2nd reclined position. Andy

Series 1 Seat back slipping / reclining
I have tried searching for something similar to this on the forum, but could not find anything relevant. At some point during a journey with the passenger seat occupied. the back will slip backwards (recline) on the RHS (tunnel side) only. It happens even with my young daughter in the car, so not ov...

Re: Colling Fan upgrade #2
The fan switch you posted a picture looks the same as supplied in the revotec kit. It fits in the top radiator hose on the LHS. As i said i am still using the kenlowe capillary thermostat inside the same hose, with the kenlowe manual override switch and keeping this as a spare. I heard good things a...

Re: Greetings!
As mentioned buy the best you can afford. If you do want to take on a project, make sure it is as complete as possible E types are very complex compared to MGs TRs etc. It is easy to restore old rusty worn parts, but if you do not have them in the first place prices asked on e bay for some parts are...

Re: New member but not new E owner in Leics England
As part of my history file I have been trying to find photos of the Wolverhampton Attwoods jaguar dealership in the late 60s on the internet But have not been able to find anything. There is a street scene showing the vauxhall dealership at the junction of raglan street and st marks rd, but not sure...

S1 Front Brake Caliper upgrade #3
After not using my Series 1 4.2 due to the usual annual winter lay up (5 months) followed by lock-down, on a recent drive the front left brake began to make a squealing noise and was getting very hot. As this was just one side I ruled out the common reaction valve issue, in my experience this normal...

Colling Fan upgrade #2
After taking my car to a specialist (RH Classics in Twyford, Leics.) for some diagnostic work. Richard advised that the existing Kenlow fan mounted in the nose of the car in front of the stone guard was not as effective as it should be, and obviously was of no use when carrying out any work with the...

Re: LED & PL700
I see from this months Jaguar Enthusiast Magazine, June, Page 53, that better Car Lighting are offering a LED headlamp upgrade kit especially for the Series 1 E type, taking into account the curved glass headlamp covers and the limited space behind the bulb. I would be interested to know if anyone h...

New member but not new E owner in Leics England
After many years reading posts for help and advice i have decided to take the plunge and sign up. I have a 1967 4.2 dhc owned for nearly 20 years. Purchased completely restored and has been relatively trouble free with no body work issues (to date). Making use of the lockdown to do some upgrades an ...
