Re: Washer motor. AGAIN

I installed a 12v submersible pump in mine - check this old post and the thread: https://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16614&p=137823&hilit=washer+motor#p137070 If you are fairly handy, this would be easy enough to do (even without 3D printed parts). The result is significantly improved flo...

Don't forget to fit a non return valve. If not, the pump has to prime every time you use the washers and it will fail early.
Yes great idea

Re: Washer motor. AGAIN

I recall reading an article, a good few years ago, where somebody retrofitted a modern generic pump inside the standard Lucas motor housing. I think it was the Jaguar Enthusiast magazine. It gave a good spray of water, rather than the reluctant dribble the standard set up gives. Regards This is wha...

Re: Washer motor. AGAIN

Thanks Geoff
I’ve stripped it and it would appear the plastic/rubber impeller has melted for some reason. Maybe run dry.

I know there are generic motors but wanted to keep it looking original if possible

Washer motor. AGAIN

It would seem I need yet another washer motor assembly. Firstly mine is the later S1 4.2 plastic jobbie. I can only find a replacement which includes the bottle and bulkhead bracket etc, neither of which I need. This little lot comes to over £180. Unbelievable Does anyone know if I can buy just the ...

Re: Rattling top end. HEEEELP

Update I’ve just been out in it again. It wasn’t tapping when warm. Then mid point on my 10 mile trip it was clearly rattling again. By the time I got home the rattle had ceased. So it would appear it comes and goes, wonder whether this is consistent with an oval tappet?? As it turns in it’s guide??

Re: Rattling top end. HEEEELP

The only thing I don’t understand Is why each time they’re adjusted they’re quiet for maybe 5-10 miles and only then do I get the strange rattle

Re: Rattling top end. HEEEELP

You can get long skirt tappets which are longer than standard....if your tappets have worn barrel shape the long skirts replacements are a quick fix...or to do the job properly new guides......you could also have a loose guide that's hitting the camshaft..you should see signs of wear.......but firs...

Re: Rattling top end. HEEEELP

What you have not mentioned is any replacement of the tappets and/or tappet guides themselves . What happens is that with extensive use the tappet buckets can become barrel shaped and rock in the guides , producing a clicking sound . The first thing I would do is to remove the camshafts and careful...

Rattling top end. HEEEELP

My 4.2 had always been tappety. It wasn’t adjustable so I opted for a head rebuild. Long story short, rattle was still there, thinking it was small ends I had the engine rebuilt. Rattling top end still there. Had tappets adjusted. Was ok for 50 miles and progressively got noisier. Had them adjusted ...

Zeus probs?

Anyone had issues with Zeus lately?

I had no problem with the initial enquiry and obtaining a price etc but then it took 3 or 4 further attempts to get a reply to wanting to place an order.

Finally I got a reply but they want full payment ahead of having the items ready for dispatch.

Anyone?

Re: Exhaust system

I had Hayward and Scott make me a mild steel sports system which has smaller silencers. I originally ran with big bore straight through rear pipes but sounded like a Messerschmitt. Now replaced rear pipes with big bore cherries like original design

Re: 5-Speed Upgrade

Hi, I have the Elite Tremec 5-speed and It is proving to be fantastic! It fitted without much issue, the gear-change is super slick and has a pretty short throw. I have a 3.31 diff and at 2500rpm I am cruising at about 75mph. Cheers. I have the same with the 3:31 diff. Still gives great acceleratio...

Re: Running in.

This is what I do: Fill with 8.5 litres of cheap 10W30. Keep the rev's under 2500 for the first 200 miles with no hard acceleration. Then drive it much harder for the next 300 miles, gradually increasing rev's up to 4-4500 with varying speeds and hard accelerations. At 500 miles, drain the oil, rep...

Hi Mike I’ve been driving daily cone rain or shine. YOLO and all, thoroughly enjoying driving it and getting it filthy. A mate of mine sent some pics of that meeting today, I said to say hi. Bill forgets to tell me about these meetings, he’s a forgetful monkey, I shall have words. Hope you’re well. ...
