Re: Anyone doing a retoration in the NW?
Well it looks like it has all gone to members of the Lancashire Vehicle Club members, thanks to all those who PM'd me and didn't follow up with a call.

Re: Centre console trim.
The one I worked on recently had horsehair/foam stuff glued to the metal, I re-foamed it and pulled the vinyl over it tight to keep it smooth and I did the same on the top piece that I think was hardboard.

Re: Anyone doing a retoration in the NW?
Now found some trimming items. Few metres of Interior vinyl, handy if you want to practice covering interior trim panels or your sewing skills. Some black hooding. Plastic clip together stackable storage bins. Compressor airline regulator/water trap (New in the bag) and a good length airline. Metal ...

Anyone doing a retoration in the NW?
Title says NW but really anyone, anywhere. I am having a garage clear out as I don't think I will be working on any cars now, so I have a few things that may be useful to someone starting out. I have not posted this in the for sale section as these are FREE! So far I have found a few boxes of AF nut...

Re: Dumb Clutch question
I'll get a photo of the 'jack' next time I'm over and get a better explanation from Barrie. That's the problem we are having Steve, the slave push rod has no pressure behind it, and moves back and forth freely if that makes sense?
Yes, push rod was disconnected.

Re: So today we mainly...
And today we mainly .... for the first time in 28 years, removed the timber blocks from under the wheels and sat her on the tyres  Coudn't get over how low it is after the roof being at eye level for so long :wow: . Oh, and the surpises keep coming, the fuel tank leaks like a sieve! New one ...

Re: Dumb Clutch question
Just to clarify, I was shouting up/down in responce to the up/down from Barrie underneath the car, Barrie manufactured a very small jack and managed to seperate the clutch plates very easily. We had already done as you suggested Steve, many times ha ha, train of thought now is that the master may ha...

Dumb Clutch question
This will sound really dumb, but I'm not well up on the mechanical engine side, body & trim was my thing. First off, we believe the clutch plates are stuck together, I have read all the post re: Sticking clutch and that's what we are heading towards and also post's re: master/slave cylinders. but no...

Re: 67 headliner removal question
I believe the headliner is glued to the roof and imagine it is a very difficult job to remove it without damaging it. I am sure I have seen a great post on here re: headliner fitting as well as the links to headliners below this post.

Re: So today we mainly...
And today we fit the new points/condenser, had a play around with the timing and got the carb linkages working together, one carb is still sticking slightly, not sure if its the linkage or the float sticking but we'll sort it out. Engine is running sweet & smooth now, really nice tone from the rathe...
Re: 205 tyres

So today we mainly...
So today we mainly bit the bullet and .... after 42 years since it last run and 35 years since it was re-built, today we started the engine! What a sweet sound to our ears it was, Barrie & I stood either side of the car grinning at each other like a couple of school kids   . Can of p...

Which engine oil?
I have tried a few different phrases in the search, but keep getting ' your search query were ignored because they are too common words' So which brand of engine oil are you folks using in your S1's, when I rebuilt my Moke 20 or so years ago, I used Millers Oils Classic Pistoneeze 20W50 Engine Oil a...

Re: Getting nearer
Well Geoff, it has been a long time in the restoration (A very very long time!) I think some where in my post's I mentioned that the car belongs to a very good freind of mine who bought the car as a basket case in 1982. I did some work on it back then, replacing panels, leading work etc, the car has...

Re: Positive/Negative earth?
Just as an update, all S1 4.2's were/are Negative Earth so problem solved! Apparently, the change was made in 63/64 with the introduction of the 4.2 engine with alternator? fitted from the 3.8 engine with dynamo/generator? fitted from factory. Information from a very reliable source and standing by ...
