FWIW petrol (or gasoline in the other English) is good for cleaning contact adhesive.

Re: fitting under dash hardura
I didn't know they were hardura, they're millboard or vinyl covered aluminium on late 3.8's which were the same as early 4.2's. Yes the large one is for the passenger side, the smaller ones go either side of the steering column. They attach at the front edge to the tabs protruding from the bulkhead ...

A trick I found is to unclip the top of the canister and lift it out with the filter attached, together the plenum attached to the seal. The seal is flexible enough to accommodate plenty of sideways movement. You can then remove the canister separately.

Re: Door Adjustment - In and Out
S1 doesn't have a lobed cam, it has a star wheel. Protect your paintwork with masking tape and, using a suitable drift give the striker plate a sharp tap, it should move. If it doesn't move far enough, with the screws loosened but not removed, observe how far in they are in the slotted holes. If the...

40 years ago the government here enforced a 10% ethanol content. It played havoc with carburettors & fuel systems so was discontinued after a few years. We had a Ford Escourt with a Fomoco VV carb, what a disaster!

Re: seat attachement 67 fhc (blocks to raise seat)??
I'm also 6ft tall. I don't know about 4.2's but my 3.8 had 1" thick wooden spacers under each runner. I found it practical to remove the spacers now I fit (just). I've not had any issues with the floor covering getting crushed.

Re: 1961 Jaguar E-Type DHC - South Africa
Yes, I think the term DHC was used in reference to the XK's, and earlier, which had more luxurious interiors than the regular OTS's. I don't think it was ever used in reference to E-types. All the best with the resoration.

Hi and welcome. What do you mean by DHC? Is that a roadsters with a hard top, or a fixed head (FHC)?

Re: center console attachment question, 67 fhc
IIRC it goes in below the metal top, held in by metal tabs as indicated by Steve. There is a thin leather covered wooden panel over the steel top. The attached pic is a 3.8, I think the 4.2 is slightly different. Missing on mine is the upholstered piping around the edge of the shift cover, just not ...

Try clamping off the bypass return hose from the filter to the sump. That'll show if you've got a leaking prv, worked a treat on mine.

For a '64 the instrument panel & the speaker grill panels should be black. The radio panel, console centre top & sides should be leather, same colour as other interior trim.
