Re: New member from York looking for servicing and restoration contacts
I can recommend Ken Verity in Rotherham. He no longer advertises or has a web site as he has so much repeat custom. You can contact him on 01709 838352 Heading south there is P&K Thornton in Nottinghamshire. Despite the distance Angus Moss is always reliable and well respected. He is also a Forum Mo...

Yep, MEK is a superb cleaner and solvent but the smell is almost addictive so plenty of airflow is desirable otherwise a headache awaits. Learning point - do not ask your wife to help with the cleaning as it is incredibly efficient at removing nail polish

Rory
I would ad MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) to your list of workshop solvents.
Also all E-Type boots were trimmed in Beige regardless of body or interior colour. Your choice, but just saying!

Two possibilities:
1. The joint cover protecting the outer journals (44) is loose and is rubbing
2. The water thrower on the rear hub assembly (30) is loose

And when you come to fit it to the banjo's be prepared for a fight. Tip: heat up the fitting, not the pipe, hold it in a vice and push the pipe on.

Re: 3.8 / 4.2 Rear License plate & grommet
The oblong rubber plug is for the bonnet valance, to cover the slot where the US tilting number plate mechanism fits. All cars where fitted with a rubber plug BD20989 sealing the aperture in the bonnet under-panel which was removed and replaced by grommet C4548 when the tilting number plate assembly...

Re: seat attachement 67 fhc (blocks to raise seat)??
No evidence to say these wooden blocks were from the Factory. Highly unlikely Jaguar would countenance fitting wooden blocks under the seats given the safety implications if the cracked/rotted. The J37 dertails what was fitted: https://i.postimg.cc/bvJXQ5C2/Image-010.jpg So Packing Piece x8 at first...

Philippe The search function does allow you to use AND OR operators but I find an iterative process works best. So search the Forum for 'below' Then use the 'search these results' box to search for 'fitting' Then use the same 'search these results' box to search for 'engine' Then use the same 'searc...

Re: tach wire generator wire placement? (pic included)
The S1's used a tach generator driven off the rear of the RH camshaft. This outputs 1v per 100rpm and the tachometer responds to the total voltage, so basically a voltmeter. It is entirely independent of the ignition system, unlike the S2 cars. About the only thing you may notice is the rev counter ...

Re: Center console, originality
Headliner was Beige unless the car was painted Green when Suede Green was used seemingly regardless of the rest of the interior colour. There was a choice of Red or Maroon interiors depending on body colour. What was the original body colour?

Re: Mangoletsi throttle pedal assembly
Angus has done the LHD conversion (I did the first RHD one) and being the perfectionist he is he ran the cables along the bulkhead to avoid cluttering the engine view (click to enlarge): https://i.imgur.com/QuCFpqm.jpg Also this thread may have some useful tips: https://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.p...
