The 'E' Type Forum

Two possibilities:

1. The joint cover protecting the outer journals (44) is loose and is rubbing
2. The water thrower on the rear hub assembly (30) is loose

The oblong rubber plug is for the bonnet valance, to cover the slot where the US tilting number plate mechanism fits. All cars where fitted with a rubber plug BD20989 sealing the aperture in the bonnet under-panel which was removed and replaced by grommet C4548 when the tilting number plate assembly...

No evidence to say these wooden blocks were from the Factory. Highly unlikely Jaguar would countenance fitting wooden blocks under the seats given the safety implications if the cracked/rotted. Loosen engine mounts and jack up the engine slightly to clear the housing.

Moss Jaguar have their open day on 22 June and Angus's LHD FHC with the Mangoletsi throttle will be on display. Plenty of chance to ask questions and take photos.

Looking at photos I doubt they will fit an S1 E-Type bonnet as they are very big due to the double reflector design:
