Re: S2 brake HEADACHE!
Hi Paul, I have a Series 1 3.8 which I had the same problem with. I know that the 4.2 system is different but the problem sounds identical. It turned out to be the front Master Cylinder. I posted the problem I had here: https://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18562 Maybe of no help but the mai...

Re: 3.8 Brakes Locking On After A Master Cylinder Rebuild.
Hi Steve, Yes, I believe that is correct. Anything preventing the MC cylinder from returning fully can cause that circuit to hydraulically lock. And it appears that just the smallest amount of load on the push-rod can cause this. However, the reason for my post was to point out that you can have the...

Thanks Barry.
These cars keep us on our toes!
I'll have to disagree with you on it only affecting 4.2 E-Types though.

3.8 Brakes Locking On After A Master Cylinder Rebuild.
Hi, I thought I would do this post hoping that it may help someone out there. I have recently completed my 1962 3.8 restoration to the point where I thought I would do a trial spin round the block. This is when a common problem I’ve read about on here showed itself. The brakes not releasing! The rea...

Re: 3.8 wiring
1. Tabs to hold choke cable and the wiring loom to wiper/rev counter away from vent flap.
2. Hole for grommet which takes above wiring loom.
3. As Christopher said.
One of the photos shows top right footwell so not sure why that was there?
Hope this helps.

Re: 3.8 Composite Head Gasket Bore Size?
Thanks for your replies guys.
You've both backed-up my concerns so think I will see if I can get a gasket with the correct bore.
Still leaves the question though of why SNG, Cometic etc are selling a gasket that covers both 3.4 & 3.8 engines?
Cheers
Sean

3.8 Composite Head Gasket Bore Size?
Hi All, I have purchased a composite head gasket from a jag suppler (not one of the usual). What is confusing me is that the bore sizes on the gasket are 84mm but a 3.8 cylinder bore size is 87mm. This started me thinking and after some research I have found that you can get a single gaskets that co...

Re: Luggage board sliding catches
Hi, Bit late but might be of use. The sliding bolts do have a detent. Remove the bolt assembly from the board. Unscrew the knurled knob and the assembly comes apart. There is a tiny spring and a ball bearing that live in a hole in the slide. Your spring may have become damaged. I only discovered thi...

Re: v. late 3.8's
Speaking of the Cross Hatched pattern, It's something I too will have to address as my restoration progresses. My Oct. 1962 FHC came with the cross hatched aluminium pattern but the console part is missing. I purchased the Austin Martin cross hatched patterned sheet (at great expense) with the inten...

Re: Zeus single pot. Pistons not retracting
Just wondering if the problem might be using old pads (worn to suit a previous Dunlop cylinder) with a new Zeus cylinder? What I mean is that I have seen old pads which, for some reason, take on a slightly wedge shape after bedding in. Possibly due to the fact that the face of the piston is not exac...

Hi, It's the same scale of hatching but for me it just looks different. I think getting a hold of the original dies as you suggested is the way to go. It will be a while before I'm at the stage I'll need it so hoping something will turn up before then. BTW,I was in a small supermarket the other day ...

If I get a chance I will try and get a photo of my original 'Cross Hatch' dash and a photo of the Aston Martin replacement sheet. You can see what you reckon to it yourself then. Never posted a photo on here before so don't hold your breath. Cheers :? Edit... Think I managed it. The Aston version an...
