Re: S3 Heater Install

Dear All, On this heater theme, I've just refitted mine after a brake master cylinder replacement and noticed there appears to be something missing. On the lower front righthand side of the heater box there is spindle that opens and closes a flap underneath the front of the heater box (described by ...

Re: Brake bleeding issues

Dear All, For what its worth I'm done with a nice firm pedal. Here's what I did and a few observations that I've not seen mentioned before. As i had no assistant I taped a broom handle to the brake pedal so I could "pump" from outside the car and keep an eye on the reservoirs at the same time. my ca...

Re: Brake bleeding issues

Dear All, I'm about to replace my master brake cylinder (with reaction valve) on my 1973 S3. I've read the manual and was happy until I read the thread above which got me a bit confused. Fitting an empty (i.e. new with no fluid in it) master cylinder and then re-filling the system shouldn't be any d...

Re: Fuel gauge not registering properly

Dear All, A shout out for JDO instruments who repaired my broken Kienzle clock, excellent rapid service. One thought, i understand the clocks go out of time because they are electrically driven, JDO calibrated mine for 13.2 volts but that voltage will vary as the cars sits and discharges and then re...

Re: Fuel gauge not registering properly

Lovely colour! Stateside car? I thought that no S3 cars came with wires. Is it a conversion? Or am I wrong? Thank you. Sable brown, cinnamon interior. on paper sounds awful but in the flesh strangely fitting to its lines. Thats the original paint, chrome (except for UK overiders), softtop, leather ...

Dear All,
My unrestored 47K miles has 70psi cold started on choke, 20 psi warm on idle and 60-70 warm motoring.

Dear All,
Fitted the semiconductor voltage regulator and now all the gauges work correctly. Just got to fix the cooling fan switch now.

"Hi George,
Not shown is the centre console and the leather gear gaiter.
The centre consoles are out of stock everywhere
If I can't find one, (he's on Ebay).
Paul"

Dear Paul,
I have a brand new unused console. E-mail me direct if you want it.

Re: Fuel gauge not registering properly

Dear All, Just seen this from 2010, "You can then use your meter to measure the output voltage and thus deduce the on:off ratio. To change that ratio (and thus the average output voltage), you'll need to adjust the adjustment screw in the base of the unit." So the instrument voltage regulator can be...

Re: Fuel gauge not registering properly

Dear All, Thanks for all the info and stuff on the other threads regarding the gauges. Some feedback, I purchased a new fuel tank sender unit from SNG assuming my original would be the fault but no, both gave linear ohm readings when isolated from the car of approx 20 to 200, full to empty. I then c...

Re: Fuel gauge not registering properly

Dear Craig,
Thank you, very helpful. that looks like you'd need to remove the main tank before getting to the expansion tank. Any idea where the charcoal filter is?

Re: Fuel gauge not registering properly

Dear All, Resurrecting this thread rather than starting afresh. How accurate should the fuel gauge be? (S3) My fuel gauge registers incorrectly, never reads full when it should and within 20 mins will be down to 3/4 empty. The reserve tank light does work. Having looked at the unit I believe both ga...
