Hi Paul,
I have ‘down sized’ from 5 to 3 classics and although I love the others, my E will be my keeper and will probably see my to my grave!
Cheers, Richard

Re: Hello from North Yorkshire.
Hi Paul, What a lovely write up 👍👍👍. I was and still am (since c1996) totally smitten with my ‘E’. I’ve done ‘40+ miles in it ( S.Africa twice, USA 3 times, Canada and all over Europe) and it, as do all E’s, always attracts a lot of attention. I just love it and it’s my favourite classic👍👍. Happy, s...

Re: Engine side frames
I got a new set of frames from E Typefabs some time ago and they fitted perfectly. Back then, they (he?) was offering an upgraded set in thicker metal, which I had. Before installing, I sprayed Waxoyl into the cavities to try to prevent any internal corrosion which you can’t detect from the outside....

Re: Lazy Starting
I have fuel pump and ignition cutout switches which I have in the ‘off’ position, I crank the engine until the oil pressure rises, then switch them on an it fires up first time, even after many weeks layoff.

Re: Replacing rear diff output oil seal
Hi guys, Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. Looks like I’ll have to bite the bullet and take the irs out - I’ve done it several times over the past 30years but at 78 it will be quite a task! It’s either that, or pay someone to do it! Think I’ll try again myself👍🤞👍. Cheers and happy motori...

Replacing rear diff output oil seal
Hi guys, Just noticed that one of my rear disc brake discs has an oily deposit on it on the inside - suppose it’s from the output seal leaking. My question is: is it possible to replace the oil seal without going through the hassle of taking the whole IRS down? (Which I have done on several occasion...

Re: Best spin on oil filter for S1?
Thanks for the recommendation, Gfhug. I searched the FRAM 2995 and the alternative is JAG EBC 9568 which looks ideal and am picking one up from our local JLR dealership tomorrow. So thanks again, Richard. P.S. I see that the ‘German’ Mahle filters are now made in China (what isn’t these days!!).

Re: Best spin on oil filter for S1?
Apparently I need an oil filter with a minimum of 45litres/min flow rate, so will check out the specs to find a suitable filter.

Best spin on oil filter for S1?
Yes, another oil - related thread! I have used : FRAM PH5832 MANN 916/1 And, when it was serviced by the guys fitting the 5 speed *’box, they used Mahle OC 23. What do you use? Does it matter which one is used provided it’s by a reputable manufacturer? As an aside, over a week ago I ordered the Mahl...

Thanks for all your replies guys.
I’ve just found another 20ltr drum of Castrol 20-50 tucked away in one of my garages!! So no need to consider trying any other oil at the moment!

Re: Best engine oil??
Steve, its no problem, I have always purchased Castrol in their large 20 litre drum, but that is now approaching £200 whereas the Motul is under £100. I've no issues with Castrol, other than the price! I was just wondering if their where any downsides in using he cheaper oil which supposedly has the...

I was sure that there were several threads on engine oil but when I tried to do a search on engine oil, using several different key words, it wouldn't throw up any previous threads for me???

Best engine oil??
Hi all, For the last 30years I have used Castrol 20-50 in both my S1 E type and XK120. Now I see Motul 20-50 Classic oil being advertised at a very competitive price. Have any of you had any experience of using the Motul product? I have no problem in paying the extra for Castrol but if Motul is its ...
