Re: Ticking noise disappearing when engaging clutch

Sorry when I say engaged = when I depress the pedal.

There is no noise when the car is stopped, out of gear.

Ticking noise disappearing when engaging clutch

I have 1973 S3 roadster. I am noticing a ticking noise when the car is in gear, not very load. If I engage the clutch, the noise disappears. Depressing the clutch, taking out of gear and then releasing when travelling the noise doesn't return. The ticking increases with revs, not road speed and only...

Re: Vacuum pipes

Thanks understood, I am guessing is was for the automatic vacuum pipes 26.10 and mine is a manual. So I will be blanking that off.

Re: Vacuum pipes

Just thinking, the top pipe at the moment is connected to the vacuum retard which I will be moving to below, but what is normally connected to this outlet?

Vacuum pipes

This is UK RHD 1973 car I am trying to improve the running idling. The car tends to vary the revs at idle. Not dramatically just a few hundred revs. I am looking for vacuum leaks, reading I am getting myself a bit confused. I believe I have vacuum retard with vacuum unit on the dizzy pointing toward...

Re: Dual Fan Wiring

Check the fans haven't been rewired to the spare switch on the right hand side. (HRW switch in coupes). That's what happened to mine, only the seller negated to tell me. I had been driving around for months without the fans going on. I only found out when I left it running outside my house after a d...

Re: Brake fluid/Handbrake warning light permanently on

Thanks for comments and detailed responses. It looks like a brake system overhaul/inspection is definitely needed. Bob, I think you are right that it's leaking down and being topped up. There is distinct difference of colour between the top and lower reservoir (not black, still brown). But I think (...

Re: Brake fluid/Handbrake warning light permanently on

Sound advice from people - thanks. Bob, I think you are correct. It has been standing around for quite a while very little mileage from year to year. It has a very extensive collection of invoices throughout the last few decades. Despite being looked after by a classic car specialist for a last 9 ye...

Re: Brake fluid/Handbrake warning light permanently on

am pretty sure this is a UK RHD chassis 1S1849. I thought 1S meant left hand drive? And 1849 seems a small number for a 73 car? No it is consistent for a UK RHD, from the Jaguar Heritage site https://www.jaguarheritage.com/files/e-type_chassis_numbers.pdf 1973 RHD OTS from 1S1681 to 1S2648, they ma...

Re: Brake fluid/Handbrake warning light permanently on

Checked out the second reservoir (LHS) and that tested OK. This had a third wire going down to PDWA. Not a great image but you can see the switch on top. https://s15.postimg.cc/czg6l5t2j/IMG_0744.jpg I am pretty sure this is a UK RHD chassis 1S1849. I haven't got a OTS parts catalogue to check if th...

Re: Brake fluid/Handbrake warning light permanently on

Thanks people for the quick replies.

It's original UK spec car.

It never entered my head that there were 2 reservoirs  Always the obvious, live and learn.

Just pressing the needle down on the other, it doesn't feel the same. So I am off the test that one.

Thanks again.

Brake fluid/Handbrake warning light permanently on

Be kind this is my first post here  Just bought a OTS 1973 and going through various problems/issues. Handbrake warning light wasn't coming on. Checked the bulb, which the previous owner had removed. Inserted a new bulb and it is now permanently on. Check brake fluid cap switch. This seems t...
