I'm heard that it can take more than one round of this process to get the right result, but is that true? I used to shim all the heads on our rebuilds. It usually took 3 to 4 runs through to get things spot on. Chris's point about ignoring marked sizes is valid. I have the shim box we used. It has ...
Or forget about the tabs, and glue the edges on the roof using MS Polymer glue like Dekasil MS5 ? They will never come of and MS5 is elastic enough and UV stable afaik. Hi Carsten, good to see you back with us. This would be what I'd do. All of the other options offer a lot of work and a moderate c...
Is there any way I can dig myself out of this hole. ? Maybe retard the ignition a tad ? Different needles ? There's not really an easy subjective answer to this. I fitted a 4.2 engine to my Mk2 with the same double HS8 XJ6 setup that you have. I then had the car tuned on a rolling road dyno. I thin...
Are the head studs new or used? My (entirely uneducated) view would be that if the studs were new I think they're fine to use. If used I'd replace them. I would also guess that the head gasket is also fine, but given the relative ease of replacing it now rather than after it leaks I'd replace it now...
I suspect that's original even though it is really poorly done. The reason I think it's original is that when I bought my XJS the inspectors didn't believe the engine number was original because it was so badly stamped; just like yours. They were so convinced it was faked that they impounded my car ...
We would always install them during a head/engine rebuild. You could install them with the engine in situ, but as you say there's a lot of drilling and swarf and IMO the risks probably outweigh the benefits. Although movement of the guides is a recognised problem, I have personally not heard of one ...
No spark. Symptom: car won’t start or run at all. NOTE: assumes NEGATIVE earth, points in distributor. To Confirm: Put a plug tester in series with a plug. It should flash when engine is cranked. If no flash check other plug leads as well. No flash = no spark. If you do have a flash the problem is N...
