Re: S3 V12 Frount mount Alternator upgrade.

Importing one of these off-the-shelf kits is not an option for me as by the time I have it in my hands, the price has doubled.

It turns out I have 7 alternators lying around in my cupboards. I will MAKE one of these work and will post on my project once I have something worth sharing.

Re: S3 V12 Frount mount Alternator upgrade.

I'm keen to upgrade the 50A Butec alternator on my car to at least a 90A unit. When the headlights, fans and aircon all are on simultaneously, the alternator just does not cope. I would appreciate it someone could provide the make and model no of an alternator that would easily replace the Butec wit...

Re: Broken engine mount

Hi Michel I'm in the process of buying it, so it will be mine soon. This car is in exquisite condition and goes better than new as is. This car has already been upgraded with modern electronic ignition (Lumenition) and a vacuum advance module on the dissy and thus runs really well and happy. Since m...

Re: Optimising the V12

Time to fit a Megajolt and DESC mon brave? Megasquirt-2 now offers 6 ignition outputs - thus can handle V12 wasted spark and hence no more DESC required. Megasquirt-3 offers 12 individual ignition outputs. Whilst I am tempted Marek, the car I now have deserves to be kept as original as possible. Fo...

Re: Optimising the V12

It may be that with a combination of different static timing, different weights and springs inside, the result may not be a sub-optimal as you may like to imagine. Marek Lets take a V12, bolt it to an engine dyno, fit it with ECU programmable ignition (as you have done  ) with the sole aim ...

Re: Optimising the V12

Peter Crespin: "but why have full vac advance at idle?" TWO reasons I can think of: 1) Physical constraints: I understand the term "ported vacuum" as meaning that vacuum only appears on that port when the throttle plates rotate to the extent that the port is subjected to either the vacuum that may e...

Optimising the V12

These cars come from a wonderful era which also had its oddities. At the risk of making false statements, I am presenting this post based on input I received from the previous owner of the car I now own...and my memory (Warning!! ALtz light). If it transpires that anything I presented here is incorr...

Re: Ignition spark appears then disappears - help

Marekh: "What the resistor plugs achieve is a slowdown in the initial rate of discharge of energy at the spark plug and this is where the benefit is."

And hence increases the DURATION of the spark? (Which could result in the whole ignition process being more effective?)

V12 E-type EFI

Just for interest: I used to have an OTS (sold it to make room for Jensen). Long story but the short version is than when the original engine seized a bearing and ALMOST broke a conrod, I decided to convert it to HE spec having already converted it to EFI before. The end result: https://dl.dropboxus...

Re: series 3 steering wheel replacement

I fitted a dished Moto-Lita 13.5" steering wheel to my OTS. Should rather have gone for a 14" wheel. Did not feel like I had sufficient control with the small wheel at high speeds (10mph or more)

Where does one get these Jim? The only suitable 4.6 pistons I could find are the ones from Real Steel but they come with 9.35:1 compression ratio and I'm looking for something around 10 - 10.5.

certainly if you own both a V12 E-type as well as an XJS you should be able to hopefully give me some insight and first hand experience...? I was getting very worried that we had hi-jacked your thread Jim!! But it seems you are enjoying it, so that is a relief. I have a web site with several links ...

If I understand the previous information correct the car with the lowest gas consumption was a stock HE XJS, using less gas than the EV12 with EFI. Is this correct ? Does your EV12 with EFI have a correct working vacuum advance ? The stock HE XJS was the lowest yes, he also "cheated" the most. The ...

Hi all This is my first post on this forum. I have a '71 XKE OTS which I converted to EFI using Megasquirt-2 and standard HE EFI hardware. The engine has also been converted to HE spec using 11.5:1 pistons and HE heads. Our local Jaguar Club had an event in Nov last year called "V12 Economy run". Th...
