Re: Prescott Hil

I used to have a cottage at Winchcombe and was part of the first wave back in the 90s. Here's a photo of chassis #13 in 1996 at Pardon. At the beginning we were numerous with our E-types, but as time passed the value and the age of the owners meant less and less came, so Petronel invited the Maserti...

Re: RIP Norman Dewis

A very moving tribute by Andrew Frankel in Motorsport: https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/opinion/historic-racing/extraordinary-life-norman-dewis-hero "So the next time some idiot jumps out of a side-turning forcing you into an emergency stop, as your powerful, fade-resistant discs bite, spare a th...

Re: RIP Norman Dewis

Such an unassuming man and a real pleasure to be with. And one would never have guessed his age, so full of life all the time. So many memories of him, but one of my favourites was at the Festival of Speed in 2011 when, aged 91, he was delighted to drive E2A again. He set off at a great rate of knot...

Only anno domini and illness has stopped me using her summer or winter, and we are well into six figure mileage together. Here she is on a nice dry day.

New battery needed

After 17 years the battery is dying. It hasn't shown more than 80% for a couple of years now, so time for a change. But a conversation leads me to believe that it is difficult to find ones that will fit inside the clamps. Has anyone else had this problem and can anyone point me in the direction of a...

Re: Norman Dewis: The Greatest Test Driver in History

My favourite memory of Norman (there are so many!) was in 2011 at the Festival of Speed. He was down to drive my car as well as E2A, and I watched him casually set off in the latter, opposite locking at the first bend. He returned with a big grin saying "you never lose it you know". This from a man ...

Re: Norman’s needs

For those still unsure, I discussed this with Tony O'Keeffe over eight months ago and the delay since has been due to getting the trust documents properly set up. I duly donated last week. We all know that there are people out there who could have donated 100 times the amount asked without batting a...

Re: Longest owned ... just a bit fun

I bought my first E-type in 1967 but it didn't last long; I wrote it off after 6 months but then it wasn't worth much in the first place. The current one and I have just passed 125,000 miles together, and we are shortly approaching 37 years together. I know of a chap in the USA who has passed 150,00...

Hard tops

Sitting ruminating at my computer the other day, the rain pouring down outside, I got to thinking whether a run of these would sell if available. https://i.postimg.cc/bvnt2BPg/Sebring-GT-Hardtop.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/rp5DpRGY/8-December-2010.jpg Ashley made one as well but I have never seen eithe...

PL 700s and LEDs

Was emailed by Duncan Rickards of Classic Car LEDs today saying that they are developing new LED headlight bulbs for the above. I've asked him to keep me in mind and to email me when they come out, and I'll post here. Well, unless you know of someone who is already making them that is!

Re: Another one turns up

Overall this car shows 48,000 kms so about 30,000 miles. But would someone care to enlighten me as to this header tank? It looks an early one, but seems too angular.

I I heard of an S2 LHD coupé today at €43,000 in Paris. That seems cheap even for an S2

Re: Another one turns up

I really can't understand what is going on. The man paid £100,000 for this car including commission. It needs a complete rebuild, and until it is apart one will never know just how bad it is. He can't afford to rebuild it so wants to sell it, and I pointed out that he'll at least lose the £20,000 co...

They do keep turning up, don't they? This 1961 LHD flat floor is back in Europe from Nigeria and now up for sale https://i.postimg.cc/pryZ5y7p/IMG-2706.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/8zgRNy1F/20190405-155514.jpg I was asked to have a look at it the other day and it is amazingly original, with all the righ...

Re: 4lb radiator cap

As has been said, one learns every day. Over 30 years I have never been able to stop the car from venting when hot, and I don't mean boiling hot either, and it would seem that I will need to find one of the 9 lb caps above. I gave up on 4 lb caps donkey's years back. Looking at mine the flanges are ...

Re: water in headlight

I was contemplating getting PL700 units with H4's but was wondering beam pattern and if they're any good at lighting the road. Quite fancy the original look but not at the expense of better lighting. Any thoughts From what I heard from a restorer the new PL700 replacements are to be avoided. His ac...

Re: Cylinder Head Numbers

R1798-9 is the correct number on mine. VSE had (but no longer of course) blank new heads they machined and stamped with your correct number if you wanted. I don't know of anyone making new cylinder heads today, but I am sure someone here does.

Re: Windscreen shape and width OTS

Yup, had the same problem myself a few years back. I was advised by CKL that they had found that the new Pilkington screens wouldn't fit but that the ones from CMC did. So, I ordered one from CMC and found that it wouldn't fit - but a Pilkington one did! Now I hope I haven't got that the wrong way r...
