Re: C2270 3.8 Locating Cylinder Head Stud problems ?
Excellent reply and thank's. Yes, the stud is up the correct way with the fat bit down. The engine is a very early 1961 in a flat floor and originality is priority so I won't be able to use the studs for the lifting eyes - but a great idea. I'll speak to SNGB on Monday, plus i'll give a few engineer...

C2270 3.8 Locating Cylinder Head Stud problems ?
Hi, I purchased the 3.8 (C2270) Cylinder Head Locating Stud last year from SNG along with the remaining new studs for my engine overhaul. I have now started putting the head back together and noticed firstly that the widest part of this locating stud (the shoulder) will in no way enter the head in t...

About time SNG addressed this problem as it's inherent in all that they despatch.
Come on Guys... get it right.

Over in Coventry is Chesman Motorsport ( Chesman Engineering).
I used them for a early 61 E engine work and an Aston Liner removal and re-seal.
Top quality knowledge, top quality service. All the well known restorers use them.

Re: Cylinder Head Specialist required Hampshire area.
Hi Chris, No, not Winchester. It was Essex (RM7). And, Ive just checked the inlet valves. One valve has no rock for the tappet shim, so that means the tappet shim pad is sitting on the Valve Spring retainer now and 3 inlet valves have zero gap between cam and bucket. I may be a fuss pot but I do lik...

Cylinder Head Specialist required Hampshire area.
Hi, I have a 1961 - 3.8 engine. I have stripped the engine and had the block, crank, pistons and head all worked on by a company I have used for many years (40 odd years) but as time passes so does some of the workforce. I am happy with the block work but not so happy with the work on the head. I wa...

Re: Crankshaft damper source and balancing
I replaced mine in September last year on a 61 3.8. Got it from the Jag Shop and can say it is well made. I didn't get it balanced then, but have just stripped the engine over the winter and got it balanced with the crank and new flywheel. Incidentally, it had balance holes drilled into it when I bo...

E Type 3.8 Litre, 1961. Crankshaft Damper bolt thread size ?
Hi, I am changing the Harmonic Damper for a new unit as the rubber was breaking up. I need to clean the thread up in the Crankshaft for the bolt. Does any one know the thread size so I can run a tap into it to clean the threads up. The old bolt was knackered so a new one has been purchased and I don...

Radio Aerial for a 1961 OTS
Hi all, I have the dash apart at the moment whilst fitting the new heater pipes and want to fit a discreet radio aerial without having to drill the wing to mount it. I would like to hide it possibly behind the dash??? I have the old original radio that came with the car and have removed it for safe ...

Car Production Numbers / Chassis Numbers / Build date -
Hi all, I am struggling to get my head around statements made by selling dealers relating to very early car numbers, i.e. chassis numbers. This is in particular to the very early Series 1 cars built in 1961. I am aware that RHD cars start with 850001 (ots) & 860001 (fhc) and that LHD cars start with...
