Re: Lucas DL3 Wiper Motor Wiring diagram and advice

Andrew.
Could you tell me the colour of the wire going to the upper brush holder in the picture.
Also for a RHD car should the crank on the motor rotate anti clockwise.
Many thanks Neal.

Re: Cost of new glass

No I just ordered it, thanks to Angus taking his original screen there & Pilkingtons modifying their mould tool all is now well.
Buy the way I have a S1 FHC just check that the screens are the same.

Re: Cost of new glass

I had a new screen for my FHC last year from Pilkingtons & it was a perfect fit no problems at all.
They were also very helpful.
It takes longer to fit the chromes even when using the original ones.

Re: The end for the MOT for vehicles of historic interest

You will still be able to take your E-type & have it tested if you want to. When they stopped testing pre 1960 cars I still had my XK120 tested every year. Just had my E-type MOT yesterday ( passed) & the tester confirmed just bring it back next year. I know some people will not bother & stop but it...

Re: Plastic sleeving on tabs for harness/fuel pipes?

You can buy PVC sleeving from Auto Electric Supplies in a large range of sizes which means you can get a size which is a good fit & no need to use the heat gun. It only costs pence per metre so you can try a few different sizes.

Re: Cadmium Plating

Hi Richard. There is one in Exeter South West Metal Finishes , who I know well but they only do MOD & aircraft work. They don't like doing car work in any type of finish & do not like doing strip & re plate work. They only plate new work this is because of the contamination risk to their tanks. Even...

Re: Cadmium Plating

Be careful with Zinc Nickel as you can get a build up a round the edges of holes which can then brake off. This is a problem which is coming up when going over to Zinc Nickel from Cad. When its used there is often a chamfer added to holes to stop this. I use Zinc & silver pass on E-type parts with g...

Re: Polishing/cleaning rocker covers and inlet manifold

Most of the firms that do plating also do polishing as most times its required as part of the plating process.
Adam Howell do good work & state in their advert they do rocker covers etc.
Also Castle Chrome.
It is best to take them off to get them polished the first time.

Re: Slow running screws

Steve. My car has the slow running screws screwed in like yours & has been like it for years with no problems. The carbs were rebuilt with the correct parts just like yours, just check though that you don't have a air leak any where & that the throttle discs are shutting correctly with no gap around...

David I know its more work but it was to keep that lip that I went the route of boring the housing & having a clamp ring as detailed in an earlier post. It means you don't cut off the lip. I need to get some more miles on the car to get a better picture but as you say there is not an easy fit answer...
