Re: 73 USA S3 2+2 Won't Start

I would pull the coil lead from the top of the distributor and check to see whether you are getting a spark from the coil.

stromberg alternative anyone fitted 4 x SU HIF 44?

I have been looking at replacing my 4 x stromberg carbs with one of these kits from Burlen which uses 4 x SU HIF 44
Has anyone fitted one and if so how do they perform?
Are they any easier to set up?
Compared to the cost of rebuilding the strombergs this kit appears to be good value.

Too be honest I already knew the answer before I asked the question ... just so frustrating as it was due to go for an MOT this weekend and after all the work to get it ready for this summer it really is a kick in the proverbials... absolutely gutted to have to rip it apart again

Have spoken with a very knowledgeable guy today from Allgears at Worksop who has pretty much confirmed what Mark has said about the clip coming off that holds the drive gear for the speedo. Apparently they are prone to it. He has told me that this is not a 'in-situ' fix and that the gearbox needs br...

Can you send the info you have to dean.revill@jivili.com please.

Peter thanks for that. I have taken a couple of photos of the speedo drive and it appears to me to be in good condition. I cannot understand why when fully inserted the geared end does not mesh in with a drive in the gearbox (a bit like a distributor). I have tried it with gearbox in neutral and in ...

getrag 265 speedo drive problem

Hi. Just been driving the car prior to taking for its first mot after rebuild. I have a series 3 with a getrag 265 from an newer xj40 fitted. All is fine but the speedo has stopped working. I suspected the angled drive had failed but when I have stripped it down the angled drive and speedo are still...

When I rebuilt my engine the only special jaguar service tool I used was the cam setting gauge. There are numerous workarounds and homemade solutions for all the other service tools that the manual tells you you need. I think that if you are a JEC member they have some that can be hired but I didn't...

Rob I made my own head removal plate from a drawing I found on the web It takes about an hour to make the plate and about 2 hours per side to remove the heads or you might be lucky and have it done in a couple of hours if the heads aren't seized on. I don't have any photos of my plate but as I recal...

Just reached this stage in my restoration and have been unable to source the springs as well
I used a length of 3 core pvc flex which is the same diameter as the springs @ 6.8mm od and it works a treat.

Mentioned this thread to a friend yesterday and he commented that it reminded him of a similar conversation regarding the Supermarine Spitfire The early Merlin engined Spitfire is for many the iconic design whereas the later griffon engined plane is whole different beast. The point he made to me was...

v12 tuning in the Notts/Lincs area?

I have rebuilt the v12 in my series 3 and to my utter amazement it actually starts and runs. The only thing that I have done to the carbs is strip them and fit a service kit. I really need someone in the Notts/ Lincs area who can set it upon so that it is running a bit sweeter I live near Newark on ...
