Well I am up and running now so thanks for your help Christoper. I stripped down the distributor and plug leads and the only thing I could find that may have been causing it was the distributor centre cap brush was gunked up with grease so that when in position and depressed it may have been causing...

My S3 is ex USA LHD auto. After rebuild it is now rhd manual. I have replaced dash loom, ditched the sequential start system and was hoping to reuse the main engine harness although formerly from an auto. I have a black/green wire that I haven't attached to the starter relay as this was for the auto ...

Thanks for the reply, Car is a V12 series 3 ex USA No wonder I couldn't find it in the parts catalogue. Looking at it again it would appear to be an additional expansion/condensing vessel that a previous owner had added to the car with an input from the expansion tank overflow hose and a discharge p...

Bob I have visited the guy in question and if my memory is correct the conversion uses the tower from a later jaguar rack that ensures that the pipe holes are in the right place I had unfortunately already got rid of my original lhd rack but the guy seemed to know what he was doing and had been rest...

What is this?

http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l514/jivili2015/image_zpsa9hbzddb.jpeg This was in the boot when I purchased the car. I have figured out that it fits in a cage underneath the radiator top shroud and appears to be some kind of expansion vessel or remote top up bottle for the cooling system? If a...

Bulkhead wiring loom fuse connections

Trying to debug my wiring loom installation is proving somewhat more troublesome than expected. Does anyone have any photos from behind the centre console showing the correct location of the wires to the fuse banks. The photos that I took are woefully inadequate...a salutary lesson to someone else c...

Thanks for that Marek What I really wanted to ask was is the rubber 'cotton reel' shaped rubber bush supposed to be set into the trapezium shaped crossmember? When I stripped the car this was covered in oil and the consistency of plasticine and too be honest I can't remember how it was as when I und...

Fitting new rubber bump stop in gearbox crossmember

Can anyone tell me how to fit a new rubber bump stop into the gearbox crossmember on an S3. The original one had been hacksawed in half but I am guessing that there must be a way to fit it without resorting to this. The new one that I have is very stiff with a 10mm deep flange on both ends and I tho...

S3 tachometer flaking paint inside

Whilst transferring gauges from old dash panels to new I noticed that the tachometer had white dust on the inside of the glass. On stripping the tacho the white paint on the inside of the case seems to be flaking off. The paint job on the inner case seems to be a combination of white, green and blac...

Michel
Sounds like you are at the same stage of rebuilding as me.
I had no problems fitting my steering rack without engine.
You might want to add a couple of pictures of your problem as you will probably get a better answer than I can give you
