Re: Stomber v SU

Hello John, you wrote in a former post: Hello there ! No difference in performance between SU's and Strombergs at all. I think, that there can be a small difference in power between the Stromberg carbs and the bigger SU HD8. But maybe the difference is smaler , than you can detect / feel when drivin...

Re: Vacuum Pipes on series 3

The disadvantages of this latter, of not using a “top-of-carb, throttle edge tapping”, is that there is vacuum advance when idling which may cause: • Car idling speed may (?) be unstable and relatively rough; • Yr car may (?) produce more pollutants when idling. • The advance vs load may not be idea...

Re: Vacuum Pipes on series 3

IF ( ? ? ? , you have to check this carefully !!! ) you have a advance unit, the advance unit is adding roundabout 16 or 24 degree of crank advance time to the pre-ignition at idle. You will have roundabout 16 or 24 degree of pre-ignition at idle, if the distributor is turned / fixed to zero degree ...

Re: S3 V12 weber six pack carburettor set-up--any views?

In the magazine OCTANE 1/2018 is a big reprot aboiut the Daytone. In this magazin the wight is 1633 kg. Therefore 158 watts per kg.
My EV12 has exactly 1480 kg with half tank and without driver. If (???) my car has 310 DIN-hp, the watts per kg would be 154.

Re: S3 V12 weber six pack carburettor set-up--any views?

Today I called my cousin and asked him for the race EV12 6,0L vs. Daytona. Immediately he was "on fire" to compare the acceleration of the cars between 50 km/h to roundabout 200 km/h (31mph to 124,3 mph) on a Autobahn. I will mount two cameras , make a video und put into youtube. I will post the lin...

Re: S3 V12 weber six pack carburettor set-up--any views?

If an EV12 with injection is running with lambda 1,0 and a EV12 with carbs is running with Lambda 1,1 at part throttle, I don't believe, that the gas consumption of the injected car is lower. Driving in the city would be different. A long 2,88 diff and a 5th gear helps a lot to safe gas. At cruising...

Re: S3 V12 weber six pack carburettor set-up--any views?

1. 800 cfm seems to be a lot of carb for a EV12 motor with 6,0l. If the calculation say 509 CFM are okay, 800 are far above this. 2. If the temparature of the air into the airfilter is 45 C, there will be a noticable difference in power to the same motor, if he is breathing air of 25 C. 3. My car ha...

Re: S3 V12 weber six pack carburettor set-up--any views?

The Strombies are too small, the original V12-injection is because of bigger butterflies better ? Maybe, but see: http://www.widman.biz/English/Calculators/CFM.html If I calculate my EV12 6,0l motor with an volumetric efficiency of 0,8, I need 509 CFM at 6000 rpm. One Stromberg has roundabout 200 CF...

My money also on the Daytona. Fun exercise, however. I will mount a camera in the Jag, so I can shoot the Ferrari as it drives off in to the distance and other viewer can have fun in youtube. My cousin is driving a 700 hp Porsche 935 on oldtimer-races and I hope he will like the idea to fight agagin...

Re: S3 V12 weber six pack carburettor set-up--any views?

The reason I' would like to do the compare with the Daytona is, that I have done such a accelaration-race againt a Maserati Quattroporto. year 2007 , 4 dorrs, 390 DIN hp. From 40 - 100 mph neither could outrun the other. Head on head we climbt up the speed range. I was thinking, that the Daytone has...

Short induction length vs. long induction length. From 5800 up the short induction length is producing mor power than the longer pipes. Re: S3 V12 weber six pack carburettor set-up--any views?

6 Weber carbs with short pipes in the V are a wonderful idea. Look for carb-stand-off in youtube, When searching for carb and stand-off you will find more of this. The stand-off is big, if each carb is feeding one cylinder. Weber produce a very good cylinder filling / torque, because each gas column...

"For yr V12E to win out on paper you would need to increase output to at least 260 kW (350 hp). Those Webers should come close, stock V12E’s are intake limited, 6 monster Webers should fix that." Re: S3 V12 weber six pack carburettor set-up--any views?

"This is an interesting graph but maybe only relevant if the engines being compared are of the same capacity? E.g. 6L, 12x0.5L versus 6x1.0L versus 3x2.0L? Otherwise, if a V12E could act like 4x3cyl. it would also (simultaneously) act like 2x6cyl? Maybe it can only act like it is, a 1x12cyl engine....

Re: 4.2 Big Valve Head Swap

The 6 short aluminium trumpets look very "sporty". I think they are too short. The length from the "mouth" of the trumpet to the valve seat determins the rpm, where the filling is best. The shorter this way is, the higher is the rpm. The jagar 4,2l motor has a long stroke und therefore the revs of m...

Re: Vacuum Pipes on series 3

If the vacuum-unit of your HE distributor is a ADVANCE type, the hose must be connected to a drilling at the Stromberg, which is ending inside the carb "air-channel" roundabout 1 or 2 mm in FRONT of the butterfly of the carb. You can find information for this in the internet. Look for "tappered edge...
