Re: Clutch hydraulic gearing

Hi Rory, I've read elsewhere in the forum that a diaphragm clutch requires LESS effort than a spring clutch. This was part of the reason I fitted one. I am becoming a bit concerned as I am not a weak person by any means and yet my clutch feels really quite heavy, which from you comments doesn't soun...

Re: Clutch hydraulic gearing

Thank you, Steve, Pete and Marek for your replies, that is really useful information and very much appreciated. I think I will order the 1" slave as its only £20ish (about a quarter of the SNGB price !!!) so its worth a try. Marek, does the fact that the pedal would have 31% more stroke mean that I ...

Re: Bent adjustable reaction plate

I agree, that looks really weak. You have a 3/4 ish torsion bar bending into what looks like a 5/16th thread!! Mine came from SNGBarratt and the cam arrangement on it is really robust and isn't going anywhere. It works very well. In hindsight however, I do agree that altering the torsion bars is not...

Clutch hydraulic gearing

Hi, I have recently started my engine for the first time and bled the clutch. All good! I've not had an E Type before but the clutch feels OK, but fairly heavy. Certainly if it were possible at this stage to do something about it I would. I wondered whether it would be possible to fit a slightly lar...

Can anyone tell me what goes in this hole?

Probably a really stupid question..... Please can someone tell me what goes into this hole on the top face of the oil filter housing? At the bottom there is a return pipe to the sump but I cant see where this one would go. I cant see anything on the SNGB site or on any photographs. Any advice would ...

S2 Thermostat Housing wanted!!

Hello all, has anyone in the UK got a spare S2 thermostat housing that attaches to the inlet manifold? They are part numbers C28212 and C28223. I need both parts (the housing and the water outlet pipe) but either would be helpful. Mine are simply missing - thats what you get buying a box of bits!! I...

Re: New member in Gloucestershire

Hi, I'm not too far away from you in Tewkesbury. I also imported an E from the USA, nearly 3 years ago now and I am probably in the last 6 months of finishing the restoration, (this may slip!!!). Happy to get together and compare notes if that helps you find resources and suppliers etc. I used Tony ...

Re: Disguising a modern battery inside an old-case

I wonder if anyone has a scrap one of these old Lincoln batteries kicking about that they are never going to use that I could buy off you to do this mod? I appreciate you couldn't mail it but I would be happy to collect if a reasonable distance from Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. Happy to buy it off...

Re: Location of brake/clutch reservoir bottles

Thanks Simon, in fact I did those welds myself as the originals were pretty crappy, but I have since found the reason. A very helpful chap at Martin Robey's went off to speak with one of their experts and it turns out that my bulkhead is from a 1961/2 3.8 E Type, (as a reminder mine is a 4.2 '67 car...

Re: Disguising a modern battery inside an old-case

Hi, Ive just been reading this thread and would like to do this conversion but..... I dont have an old Lincoln Battery I can use. Ive called a few of the local battery suppliers thinking they may have an old one kicking about but none of them have seen one in years. Has anyone got an old one of thes...

Re: Location of brake/clutch reservoir bottles

Thanks Paul and Simon, it is a mystery. Having seen your earlier post Simon I ordered those external vacuum pipes from SNGB and they arrived this morning, (terrific service, I only ordered them yesterday mid-afternoon!!). The pipes are copper, so I guess they should be painted black? I can confirm t...

Re: Location of brake/clutch reservoir bottles

Hi John, Greg and Tim, thank you thats brilliant! As you can see I'm not being a slave to originality, but I do want things where they should be if I can! Greg, thank you for that picture, thats terrific. Most pictures are taken standing by the screen into the engine bay so you cant see the bulkhead...

Location of brake/clutch reservoir bottles

Hello all, can I ask for some help? I am restoring a 1967 S1.5 that I bought from the USA a few years ago. Things are going well and the body/engine and rear axle are all done and fitted. I have converted the car from LHD to RHD. All good so far. I am struggling to find the correct place to locate m...

Re: Has any got one of these please?

Hi Carsten, thanks for your post, and everyone elses. Having pointed out that this part is off a S2 car I have now found it on the SNG Barratt website. Here it is: https://i.postimg.cc/YCsXkZVF/image.png They appear to be out of stock at the moment and I am just waiting to hear when (if) they will b...
