Re: speedometer

Hi,

thank you for the hint.

I can't find a source for these sleeves at the Moment so I will try alternative solution.

I hope it will not shrink due to the high temperature of the bulbs

speedometer

Hi, another question just coming up. I thought that the control lamps (tank, high beam lamps, ignition) don't work. But they work perfectly, only problem is that when I put them into the speedo I can't see any light in the indicators (blue, yellow, red) Looking into the holes it seems that the color...

Re: heat shields

Hello Marek,

thanks a lot.
For me that's good news.
The carbs are out anyway and the rest of the inlet manifold I also have to take out.

Best regards

Re: S3 Stromberg Bypass Valve

Hi Dennis, you are not alone! I also found 2 of 4 floats beeing upside down. Choke cables secured with wire instead of clips. All idle screws completely screwed out and the pre owner was wondering why the car was only running on choke. All 4 carbs had different settings of the jet needles and the ne...

Re: S3 Stromberg Bypass Valve

Hi Marek, do any problems occur when they are permanently blocked? I'm also just overhauling all carbs of my 71 S3 and found that the new gaskets are slightly different from the old ones. The old, installed ones have a bypass cut away so that air can permanently go through the valve even if it's clo...

heat shields

Hi, can the exhaust manifold heat shield be removed while the engine is in the car or is this impossible. At the moment I don't exactly know how to remove the spring and the rear bracket (will it fall down after the spring has been removed?). I want to clean the engine but with the heat shield in pl...

Re: Plug for the S3 in Classic Car - Buy one now!!

Hi, a cheap one was the only possibility for me to get one. It will be my last "Oldtimer" and I want to work on it for the next years. For me working on a car is like a therapy after a hard day in the Office (a kind of ZEN of repair). I have been very much aware that in the end I will spend the same...

bonnet support frame S3 1971

Hi,

can someone tell me if the part I marked in the attached pic (some kind of flap) is necessary or not?

The pre owner of my car has cut it away (don't ask me why :banghead: )

Best regards

Re: Plug for the S3 in Classic Car - Buy one now!!

That's exactly why I bought a cheap one. The good ones are already expensive.

I wanted to have one and even if it takes years to get it back into good condition I'm already sitting in it in my garage and dreaming of the day the engine will start for the first time.

Re: Fan and Horn +

Dear Forum colleagues, this evening I spent some time with my dreamcar (to be) and have finally found all original wires. The brown + cable on my photo is not the cable to the fans but the original one for the horn relay. The connection is inside the loom (invisible without unwrapping) like...

Re: Fan and Horn +

Hello Hugo, that's exactly what I think. I want to get rid of the mess my pre owner has created. I will remove all the junk he has installed. If I come to the conclusion that the original loom needs to be replaced I will use a new one from Autosparks. Most of my time I try to find out what the pre o...

Re: Fan and Horn +

Hello Simon, we are misunderstanding each other. I know there are additional wires from + to the fans. My pre owner has disconnected the fan relay and conected the fans directly to + via a Switch. I can easily change this back. The only Thing I'm lookin for is where the 2 + (brown) wires to the fan ...

Re: Fan and Horn +

Hello Simon, I tealls appreciate your detailed answer. At the moment the fans get power directly over a switch in the cockpit, rewired with a new cable. The fan relay is not used The horn relay is connected to the 50A fuse and works. The + cable to the fan relay is just disconnected close to the hor...

Re: Fan and Horn +

Hello Simon, thanks for the reply. Basically my horn relay is connected in the right way ( only the brown wire on your pic has been replaced by a black one in my car) The black wire in my car is connected to the line fuse. Horn wiring seems to be OK (and works) but I do not know where the + line to ...

Re: Fan and Horn +

Hello Julian, no problem, basically it is easy to connect the two wires  but I want to make it close to original spec. I have already bought a "coolcat" temperature switch kit which will replace the otter switch. You won't believe how the wiring actually is done in my car. The owner has used...

Fan and Horn +

Dear forum colleagues, sorry for bothering you with a rather simple question. The pre owner of my 1971 E V12 has put a switch in the cockpit to operate the fans manually. Now I'm trying to bring everything back to normal with automatic operation via the Otter switch. If I read the wiring plan correc...

Re: carburettor gasket

Hello Bill, thank's a lot. I have already bought new spacer blocks because they have never been exchanged before. They could not be removed without damage and I have found exactly what you have described. They look like beeing compressed quite a bit and only on carb side a gasket has been added. Tha...

Re: carburettor gasket

Hello Steve, understood, but the parts catalogue is on backorder. In the Internet version I couldn't find it, there I can only see the block: 13. Carb spacer block C33060 4 of but no paper seals which (4 of) are in the Burlen kit) I'll search again and if necessary move to the S3 site. Thank you Sven
