Re: Fuel return valve series 3 V12
The valve in backwards may not stop the flow completely and doesn't need to, I can blow through mine backwards is I try really hard. I once had a badly blocked fuel filter when driving overnight, Melb to Canberra. Didn't realise at the time that that was the problem. Couldn't overtake a skateboard. ...

Should do what it did. Have you put it in backwards?

Re: Heating and ventilation *** Updated
Hello Colin / lowact, Can you help me by clarifying your post please. I've added a marked up copy of your photo to ensure that I understand your explanation of the valve operation. My recently re-commissioned series 3 seems to always have warm air flowing into the cabin. Not an ideal situation in Q...

Re: Ticking noise disappearing when engaging clutch
Bad news is, I never found the cause. Car is in very many tiny little bits atm, If the noise is still there after I've put it back together .... I will not be impressed.

Re: Ticking noise disappearing when engaging clutch
Does it go away when the car is warmed up? I.e is it there when you head off but not when you return? That was what mine did, I ignored it, until it stopped going away ...

Re: V12 Overheating: The contributing factors
“Thermal shock” is the term that is used, I didn’t invent it. Most technical publications on the subject, now Wikipedia, look up “Wax thermostatic element”. “Rich fueling” should not be on the list, even as a 2ndry consideration? Overheating is when the temperature is not what you want it to be. Ret...

Re: V12 Overheating: The contributing factors
If you have overheating issues, a good starting point is to know absolutely that it is not a design problem, that the Jaguar design is about as good as it possibly could be. Modifying thermostats belongs in the same category as modifying (upgrading) radiator fans; “treating the symptom not the cause...

1st try topping up yr gearbox oil. My car had same problem when "recently purchased". Fixed the crunch but exposed the root cause, stuffed rear oil sesl.

Re: Oil pressure gauge
With confidence buoyed by the fading of memories of past failures I have embarked on the next great challenge, accurate oil pressure indication. Now I know that the consensus of the enlightened is to ditch the electric gauge in favour of a mechanical one, to the extent that SNGB now stock them as up...

Re: Who knows about the Ignition timing ?
Ignition advance is done to make the engine more efficient (use less petrol). Ignition retard is to make the engine warm up faster, by making the engine temporarily inefficient only when cold and idling (inefficient = less torque, more heat). The source of the vacuum and the type of distributor must...

Re: Not all cylinders firing...
Left bank is B bank, Right bank is A bank. I.e. D = B, P = A Firing order is 1A, 6B, 5A, 2B, 3A, 4B, 6A, 1B, 2A, 5B, 4A, 3B. I suspect either yr coil is stuffed, or it is the wrong one, or there is a very poor connection or wire supplying it. When using the in-line spark tester, were all the other p...

These dimensions may also be useful: https://i.postimg.cc/Wzhhh2X1/20200620-225607.jpg This is showing Jag 4speed with the tunnel cover propped into correct position over. Box is in 2nd gear, i.e. the lever is as far back as it goes, note the angle of the gear lever. Note also that the gear lever is...

Re: Engine & gearbox dimensions
That’s correct, sum gives you the position of the lever when it is vertical, i.e. a reference dimension to locate the lever in the cabin, not were it mounts to the gearbox which is offset (forward of this). On E-type the lever is as far back as it can go, zero opportunity for it to back any further ...

Re: Engine & gearbox dimensions
OEM, bellhousing length = 156mm. Gearbox length from bellhousing to vertical gear lever = 316 mm. Any other dimensions or photos req’d just list them. As well as fit, consider torque and ratio. XJ81 (6 litre HE) engine max torque > 460 Nm (340 ft-lb), gearbox may need to be rated at more than this i...

Does anyone else have any suggestions or recommendations? I’m interpreting Curtis that you’re on the same trajectory as me, US car, drive it around for a while (Stage I) while planning significant upgrades (Stage 2). I’m deep into Stage 2. With the state of your car as described (hoses) you might f...

Re: Dedicated LPG?
Bob, I hope that Spitfire is saved for posterity? Garry, my car is my hobby, making sympathetic improvements. I.e. I bought it to mod. Gridlocked in a taxi on the Tullamarine freeway, missing flight again, an FHC cruised past in the opposite direction, I had an epiphany. Bought a cheap OTS sight uns...

Was the cap ok, just the rotor that was softening? I think they are the same material? Maybe SNGB should review their souces of both.

Re: Dedicated LPG?
Garry thx for the app reference, PetrolSpy, kept up to date by users, I like it. I think what you are describing is vapour mixing vs vapour injection, both use a converter to 1st convert the liquid to gas, when it’s very cold the converter needs some warmth to stop it freezing. So cars using these s...

Dedicated LPG?
Currently upgrading my V12 to HE, EFI, by swapping heads and pistons and a new ecu. Hoping to set new records for cleanliness and efficiency. Question is, should follow Marek and convert to LPG? I really like the idea of dedicated LPG (no petrol) liquid phase injection (LPi). Petrol tank and pump re...
