Re: 5-Speed Boxes
I've got a standard, well worn 3.8 engine with factory power (at the most). Mated to a 3.07 axle this leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to spirited driving on winding roads with uphill sections (lots of them in my country). I decided to install a 3.54 axle. Now I am missing a fifth gear on mo...

Re: Rear Calipers
I usually try air and rags first and move over to the grease gun when pistons dont move immediately. The grease gun connects directly to the bleed screw by the way, plug the other thread with another nipple.

Hi Andrew,
sorry to hear that. I am sure those guys have never seen a car like that, so they just wanted to be on the safe side with this statement.
All the best

Re: Zeus single pot. Pistons not retracting
Compare the Dunlop (which has no issues I understand) vs the Zeus, both mounted to the caliper as well as side by side on the bench. There must be a difference to be detected.

Hi Rory,
- offtopic, but what a lovely new avatar!
The seats are off my car at the moment, so I should think twice about what to install

Re: 3.8 seat frame colour
Incidentally I believe the factory only painted the lower area which is visible under the seat cushion & underside of the seat if removed. The “vertical” backrest behind the moquette etc. was left raw steel .... well, that’s what I found when I removed the trim on mine. I suspect this is factory co...

Re: Distributor curves
John,
refering to your post#15- yes, it works very well - easy starting, smooth idle, no audible pinging with 95 leadfree. Smooth on overrun. Following this thread I am tempted to try a more aggressive curve.

Re: Repairs to S1 cam cover
Hi Richard,
I always use Loctite 5910, never got them leakfree without it, do not omit the bore for the tach generator.
Before buying a new cover, make sure you have a crack, maybe try a detecting spray.

Re: Distributor curves
The parts cat lists part number C14269,type DMBZ / 40617 up to engine RA1381, from then onwards part number C20679, type 22D6 / 40887A. According to Porter, the change was made in April 63. The next change is given in August 64 engine RA6834, distributor part number C20680. I have a table that lists...

Re: Fuel sender connection at dash.
According to the wiring diagram, greenbrown (GN) is allocated to the flasher. Greenblack (GB) should be the wire from fuel sender to instrument. Some years ago a loom from autosparks we ordered for a P5 Rover was missing a wire altogether by the way.

Hi Baz, indeed the car must be very special to you. With this history I would not even think about selling. Unless you buy a completely nut and bolt restored example, sooner or later you will have to replace the clutch and rear pads anyway, let alone other hidden problems. So better to do the work o...

Re: Speedo failure
Hi Richard,
now that the speedodrive ist out, I'd take the opportunity to dismantle and check or have it rebuilt or get a new one (C17087=BG2402-02 for the moss box). The short shaft/ cable may be damadged where it is crimped to the gear.
