Nothing like the sound of a Merlin to raise the hairs on the back of your neck!! :D I got a ride in the Grace Spitfire a few years back from Duxford to Farnborough for the first day of the airshow. I was just amazed at the agility and power of such an old aircraft! 8) I even got to fly it briefly. :...

Jon, you will also have to send your V5 away to DVLA at Swansea to get the taxation class changed. I understand from DVLA that you can do that about a week before the end of March.

My E Type was maintained by Beaconhill Garage for about 15 years before I bought it in 2010. Still got all the receipts including a very big one for a full engine re-build.

Totally agree, get a certificate with his name on. What would happen in the event of an accident and producing documents to the third party or the Police? Even if stopped for a Police check you will need a certificate with his name on it.

From what I have read it looks as though running on a flat tyre caused a fire in the tyre that spread!

A few years ago I had a flight in a two seat Spitfire from Duxford to Farnborough for the opening day of the Farnborough Airshow. What an experience, the raw power of that Merlin was incredible, I took control of the aircraft for a short period and it was so responsive! Interesting the company that ...

Hi Steve,

No I didn't get an answer, but spoke to my local motor factors and they advised using Comma AQF Automatic Transmission Fluid which meets Ford ESP-M2C-33F/G requirements. I use it in the auto box and the power steering.

Hope this is of help.

Dear Mike, When you say "for engines manufactured before...", do you really mean "for cars declared manufactured before 1975 as stated on the V5" instead? Legally, that's a totally diiferent statement and one you don't want to confuse, if you put a replacement v12 block into the car. kind regards M...

Thanks Wolfgang, I appreciate your thoughts. We will take a look at the carb tuning. Your comment on running lean may well be right as the engine is a bit fluttery at low rpm and needs coaxing whilst accelerating. Angus Moss managed to get me the UK MOT limits for engines manufactured 1975-1986. The...

I have receipts for my FHC going back to 1975 and in that time it has had two replacement bonnets (due to accidents) plus hundreds of other parts replaced because of failure or corrosion and it has only done 82,000 miles in 51 years. That is the trouble with UK cars, our inclement weather meant man...

Emissions are currently showing 4.5 for CO2 and 1400 for hydrocarbons. Is this right? Thought the hydrocarbons were a bit high.
Thanks Mike.

Exhaust Gas Emission Levels for a Series 3 V12

Can anybody tell me the optimum exhaust gas reading levels for a series 3 V12 when properly tuned. This is a UK car without the US emission control set up and has standard Stromberg 175CD2's.
Thanks
