Re: Electrics suppressor
They were commonly fitted to the low tension side of the ignition circuit, and to the alternator, to suppress radio interference

Re: Manual Trans Hydraulic Throwout Bearing Setup
It most certainly is not recommended : it is a recipe for disaster given that the slightest hydraulic leak means an engine out job

Re: Sherwood green on the E type
Glasurit JAG-605 is certainly given as the code for Sherwood green in the xke database, which is the most reliable source of colour pictures. http://www.xkedata.com/catalog/colors/ However, as I stated at the outset, the xkedata colour is definitely the slightly grey/green colour I remember, and it ...

Re: Looking for a E-type -help on MOT advisories
The front suspension defect is very major indeed. The description of the fault also indicates that the tester knows nothing about E types, because the front frames must NEVER be welded. They are made of special Renold tubing and are heat treated and can only be brazed . If the front frame has fractu...

Re: new member / dealer and car opinions please
Ralph : I do not wish to seem too cynical, but the fact a purported vendor is advertising on e.g. Car and Classic means absolutely nothing . A friend of mine who is a well known and well respected dealer in classic Jaguars was astonished when I drew to his attention two cars which he had just bought...

If that's a dealer, I'm a Dutchman. Car in what is an obvious domestic garage, along with a very scrappy looking lhd XK120 . Be very, very careful and don't part with a penny until you have seen the cars involved

Re: I’m loosing master brake fluid.
It will be seal failure in the hydraulic cylinder attached to the front of the servo unit . This allows fluid to enter the servo. You are likely to find when you remove it that it has a large collection of fluid inside it

Re: Auto to Manual Conversion series 2 2+2
Removal of the engine does not require partial dismantling of the front suspension ( although that makes removal of the reaction plate easier) , although that is not all that difficult if you follow the instructions in the workshop manual

Re: HELM Jaguar E Type 300hp Restomod - Review
Quite so, Stuart. I know of no requirement under the various UK Construction and Use Regulations requiring overriders to be fitted, and can point to many cars e.g. Hillman Imp which did not have them. I think what Joe may be thinking of was the various USA regulations which most certainly did requir...

Re: fumes from dipstick hole
Donal and Marek : yes, the 6 cylinder cars have ( or should have ) a collection device at the front of the top dome at the front of the engine, which is connected by flexible hose , usually of the corrugated metallised cardboard type , to a port on the inner face of the trifurcated backplate which c...

Re: JLR Win Copyright on C type
JLR only need one successful action and the rest will probably comply with a finger wag. I'm not so sure about that. Most of these outfits are not worth tuppence, and JLR may be about to learn the very expensive lesson that obtaining a judgment and order for costs is one thing, but getting it satis...

Re: mating gearbox to prop shaft
Well , I agree with Simon on this. You perhaps do not need to remove the shaft, but at least withdraw the gaiter and get as much anti seize compound into the joint as possible . Diesel is as good a fluid as any , and then get as much graphite grease in as you can

Re: JLR Win Copyright on C type
I think the difference between the INEOS project ( which I thought had been abandoned ) and the C type was that the Court held that the design and the shape of the C type was utterly distinctive . The Ineos in contrast seems to have a number of influences - in many ways it looks more like a Mercedes...

Re: dutch e-type newbie looking for his first
Ralph Under no circumstances would I advise buying off the internet without either seeing the car yourself, or getting someone reliable to look at it, and its paperwork , thoroughly. There are far too many crooks around putting fake and/or non-existent cars ( or parts thereof - we had an E type engi...

Re: dutch e-type newbie looking for his first
I tried to post this earlier but somehow it disappeared. The rear end appearance of the S2 is greatly improved by substituting the S1 tipe tail pipes for the S2 " ram's horns". Also there are good safety reasons for the much larger rear, brake and indicator lights . However, another consideration if...
