Re: URGENT.....Building a Replica and IVA
The same story in Austria :cussing: all cars to be registered for the first time have to comply with current standards - dont even think of trying to meet them all. Unfortunately this is also the case with imported real classic cars- unless they are considered worth preserving, being on a list issue...

Re: Cleaning carburettor bodies - Soda Blasting ?
I should mention that the manifolds in the above photo had been bead blasted in the past, giving a coarser surface to start with. However soda blasting gives alu a dull apperance and quite the contrary to a shining look (I had to re-polish the front center of the cylinder head after sodablasting). P...

Re: Cleaning carburettor bodies - Soda Blasting ?
Rory, I had my inlet manifolds and the head sodablasted- soda powder is completely soft, feels and looks like flour, and does no harm to eg valve seats ( at least thats whats I was told- everything working well up to date). But the finish is dull and nothing like the original cast look. Acid dipping...

Re: Mystery misfire
You didnt really answer if the inlet valve actually opens.....you said that the tappet goes up and down.....that dosnt mean that the valve opens I think it does, else maybe you can explain how that could happen. Otherwise I think that's been answered by subsequent posts. Cylinders 2 & 3 are working...

Christopher,
always thought about converting to diaphragm clutch myself;
beside om drilling- does this involve a different slave cyl and other work as well?

Re: 3.8 FHC - Dunlop brake master cylinder pipe fittings
Richard,
diameter is 1/4,
you need to measure m/c bore depht (=min. thread lenght of fitting)
hose -end of pipe has no fitting (push fit with hose clip)
Automec lists fittings on their homepage

Re: Cost of respray
Bill, you're definitely right. Nothing gained with doing the priming yourself and having an expensive paintjob on top of that - except for all the risk that comes with it. Preparing the car (dismantling, taking back to bare metal, degreasing) in consultation with the paintshop as well as exactly tel...

Re: 3.8 four way brake union
I wouldn’t be happy having to pay £18 for something that needs work to fit. Isn't that the way of things with the parts specialists? They just find something that looks vaguely similar, buy it for £2.50 and sell it to us for £18! That brake union is just plain wrong! Regards Exactly. Or rather buy ...

Re: ‘68 2+2 Re-trim
I ordered from Eric Suffolk; although together with a trim kit. I did many bits myself and some parts of the kit a second time  That is part of learning by doing - order much more material than calculated. Eric supplied all the different materials in matching colour and grain; although not orig...

Re: Hi to you all - new member
So here goes my story: My father was into classic cars having restored a Healey 3000; when market and prices started to rise in the mid 80's, the Etype found me in form of a metallic blue 3.8 from US with hardtop, almost no brakes and no first gear, but surprisingly matching numbers (though not impo...

Hi to you all - new member
Hi to you all and thank you for the warm Welcome! I am a regular visitor to the Forum and thought I should also start contributing a little bit through my 30 years experience with an Etype (huh, getting old - me , not the car). This is also the moment to praise the forum's in depth- knowledge, which...
