Re: Confession about SEARCH, Question about Engine Installation
Prop shaft :policeblue: - yes. Engine on a trolley ? Front frames in place ? We must be at cross purposes. The gap between the ears of the front frames is just 224mm ; the bell-housing is 360mm wide. The material is irrelevant as regards the load imposed on the thread. Bolt tables throw up figures o...

Re: Confession about using SEARCH, and Question about fitting engine
Following on from Andrew's invitation, here's a shot of the action. No claim to originality or invention here, I've seen people refer to it elsewhere on the Forum. https://i.postimg.cc/h48y5mDg/IMG-20231010-080210.jpg It requires a good load-leveller, and the position of the anchorages used on the c...

I was about to vote for WD40, whose smell has accompanied my every mechanical activity for 50 years.
But 5 minutes ago I ordered my first ever can of ACF50.
Nowadays, you just can't escape these Influencers on the web.

Rear Sill End Sealing inside Wheel-Arch
The junction of the various components at the rear end of the sill, where it joints the wing and the wheel-arch, is one, I am told by Jaguar professionals, that can be a bit messy to seal up. Much recourse to PU sealant is then disguised with stone-chip paint and - basta ! - Bob's Your Uncle. Having...

Rear Wheel-Arch Sealing Panels and Flaps
I could not find anything published about the sealing of the rear-wheel arches. If anyone can find anything, please flag it up and I'll modify this post accordingly. https://i.postimg.cc/L6wdJ15d/J30-PLATE-41.jpg It took me nearly 20 years to realise that these sealing flaps are the only things keep...

Re: Washer motor. AGAIN
Is the pump actually visible with the plastic 4.2 version ? I ask simply because I would challenge anyone to spot that my glass 3.8 type no longer uses the original pump. I use a Mini pump fitted just above and behind the glove box, sucking through the original tube and foot, such that - I think - i...

Re: Disappointed in parts quality
As has been intimated elsewhere in the thread, there will be times when being down to 9mm close will seem quite good. Could you out a picture up to show where your 9mm are ? There is a surprising amount of “give”, in the shear sense, of these rubbers, if you can work out how to impose it. Which is w...

Yes Steve, indeed those spacers are way too tall and fat.
I’ve ordered the correct references from SNGB and Brian there has confirmed the dimensions.
I’ll put the sizes up with the pictures when I fit them.

Re: Series 2 engine mountings
Interesting point. You really have to use a washer there as the oval (and filed) hole is a way-less satisfactory seating than with the original rubber support. https://i.postimg.cc/yYq0NFrp/IMG-20231018-123447-edit-764478408379700.jpg I reckon there's probably 3mm vertical separation, to use up firs...

Re: Series 1 and Series 2 engine mountings
Some details about the C1855CU "uprated" ones - which incidentally are also Series 1 compatible. https://i.postimg.cc/3Jt9XC38/IMG-20231006-103606.jpg They are indeed generic ones that are considered "close enough" to be sold to Jaguar owners, but selling them relies - as is now customary - on their...

Phew, I wasn’t dreaming. For once.
If I want to stock-up on a back-up system, David, what’s the approved route for finding a DL3A such as you mention ?

Interesting point that David, about the 4-way having a 5th hole. I had understood that there was indeed a true 5-way connector, as seen here : https://www.thebonnevilleshop.com/product/triumph-norton-bsa-lucas-5-way-female-bullet-connector-sleeve-5x1-1-pn-850832/ but maybe they were in fact not in u...

Re: Steering Rack fail safes
I'm sorry that Peter never got any Series-3 replies back in July 2020, regarding his rack query, and can't myself help. Much of the steam and hot-air could have been taken out of this subject if one of the protagonists had committed sketch-to-paper and laid out the various components so that the pro...

Thanks for that from both of you.
The 5 wires are indeed required for my ensemble, David, you may have forgotten the separate green one to the LHS of the wiring diagram
I’ll send this bracket back ; would it cost more to make ones that fitted ?
But ‘twas ever thus.

Re: Wiper Motor 5-way connector block clamp C2796
Would anyone have an original one to hand ? I've now got the SNGB version. My car has two 3/16" holes at 1-1/2" separation, or say on 38mm centres. The SNGB bracket's holes will not even take an 1/8" rivet, and they are on 41mm centres. Well, "bend it tighter and drill the holes out", I hear you say...

If you don’t want to do the job twice, I would consider consulting Rob Beere.
In fact I would no longer buy any XK engine part from anywhere else, in view of the rabid state of the aftermarket world.

Re: Brake line routing
Dismissing - offhand - Mikael's question as one that could be solved with an exploded parts drawing, and a search of the Internet, looks like a good illustration of the differences that exist between people who buy their cars, as opposed to those who build them. No slight on the former, but personal...

Copper and CuNiFer Pipes Sold By The Foot
I found it surprisingly hard to buy CuNiFer brake-pipe, and 1/4" and 5/16" copper pipe for master-cylinder feeds and fuel-pipe respectively. Any number of 25' rolls etc, or pre-formed pipes, but even people like Namrick don't sell cut-to-length. Then I chanced across this UK firm last week https://w...
