Re: Seat rail availability or seat options for 63 Coupe
The best option is to sell these seats, then either get originals or MX5.
I have a pair of originals, let me know if of interest.

Re: Unknown body part / leftover
It is made from pressed steel covered with the cheap black paint used by the body parts manufacturers. It came from M-Robey or Hutsons with other parts I had ordered almost 30 years ago  , regretfully no sticker left. First thought it could be for the rear license plate, but it is not as I hav...

Unknown body part / leftover
Putting some order in the storage, found this body part leftover from my S2 restoration.
Could not put trace the function or the part nr.
Can any good fellow help identifying? Thanks!

Re: Vibration on frame
Keith, no you cannot over compress at rest. The fact that the slot of the pin is visible means that the rubber/spring combo height is less than what it should be. I doubt it is the spring that has sagged. But rather most probably, due to the long excessive compression with the pin fitted the spring ...

Re: Vibration on frame
Keith, in your last pic we can clearly see the removed pin location: which means the spring is not much compressed at rest. With a healthy spring/rubber combo you should not be able to see it. Don't know how to express it more clearly, to me it seems that the spring/rubber combo has sagged a bit and...

Tony,
Check in the centre of the bulkhead, underneath the bonnet latch, it links the bulkhead to the bellhousing.

Re: Vibration on frame
If the pin has been there for some time, the rubber mount would have been compressed soaked in oil and should be replaced. Getting the pin out is not easy, you will need to figure out a way to pull the gearbox further down to release it. Watch out as the spring is very strong. Don't ask me how I kno...

Re: oscillating idle and lack of power
Peter, when looking at your timing map the advance at 500rpm is 13, while at 700rpm it is 10 and at 1000rpm it is 11.5. Strange. Plus there is no correction for the load. Any reason why you did not load the standard map for a 4.2 engine? Your engine idle is stable at +/-500rpm, but hunting at 700......

Re: Building an Engine Test Bed
Although I am always impressed by your work Rory, can't refrain from asking: wouldn't it have taken the same (or less) time and efforts to fit it directly on the car?

Re: [edited] Spin on oil filter vs retrofitting OEM filter housing on Series 1
Serge, congrats for reaching a good fit of the canister ultimately. I feel your painful experience because I lived the same. A slight difference though: the thin seal provided with the filter was too thin, so when tightening the canister edge simply twisted it and I got 3 liters of oil on the garage...

Re: Sovy Failure
Tim, this is surely better than the current repro bottles available on the usuals.
Although psychologically I am not well prepared to accept a bmw part on my car
The other valid option is to locate old original ones that look darkened and clean them, they would keep you going for years.

One similar that drove me nuts for days of investigation: the 2 lower bolts on the right bonnet hinge were a bit loose. Maybe worth checking.
