Re: 10,000 mile "temporary" engine update
"It is being dressed up in a slightly more traditional fashion with triple SUs and a 123 tune distributor. It will be interesting to see how it performs, all other things remaining equal." This would be really interessting to know. Maybe (? ? ?) the rampipes I can see on the picture are a little bit...

Re: 6.0 V12 and 4 speed auto box transplant
Hello Curtis, keep in mind, that the original auto box from an 1993 V12 limousine is a VERY heavy (117 kg) and big box. I think you have to change the shape of the gearbox tunnel of the car. I have mounted such a motor with 4 stromberg carbs and a Getrag 5-speed into my EV12 OTC. Gas consumption rou...

Re: Tuning Problems V12
Why don't you mount a vented cooling system for your amp ? You need a rubber hose form the air filter onto the amp and a second hose leading from the amp to the front of the car. If the motor is running, cold (!) air would be sucked through the amp. I can't estimate, how big the cooling effect woiul...

Re: Tuning Problems V12
I had such a problem for three years. If the hydrocarbons are 2000 ppm and the co is 9,5% maybe some ignitions ar failing and the motor is blowing out not ignited mixture from some strokes. Such a problem can be ignition related or carb-related. Mine was ignition related. The timimg was much too ear...

Re: Capacity and compression ratio increase
"Ultimately I will be looking to to go to full EFI with coil packs etc but for now it may be a bottom end rebuild with the original carbs and ignition." The 6,0L HE-Motor has more displacement with a longer hub. A longer hub produces a torque curve with the maximum at lower revs. Maybe the solution ...

Re: V12 starting issues
Does the motor have a good idle when it is hot ? If the idle is good, there es no leak for air at the hoses.
If the motor pulls air through a hole, the idle is bad.

Can you write her in the forum, if the tire-flat foam has closed all leaks.
The leaks must be closed for a long time, when using the car.

Re: Electronic Ignition - carb ported vacuum versus manifold vacuum?
Roberts remarks about this are exatly 100% correct. If you use manifold vacuum, you have max vacuum at idle and therefore maximum advance at idle. If you have a 16 degreee capsule, you would have 10 plus 16 = 26 degree at idle. You would have a stumblingidle and therefore a very bad smell out of the...

"These are triple SU's on a 4.2l modified engine - cams, porting, big valves." 17 years ago I have made one big hole through the two silencers of my EV12. The back pressure was reduced. As a result I had a flat spot , when pressing the pedal suddenly to the floor from roundabout 1000 - 3000 rpm. Som...

Re: Series 3 carb removal
Easy solution: take a spare spanner (in german language is called "fork key" or "open mouth" key) and saw it short and grind the mouth slim. Drill a small hole at the end and make a thin 1 m long yarn at it. 5 minutes to work, if you have a saw and a grinder. With this special stromberg-tool I was a...

Re: Series 3 spark plugs colours
"Vacuum advance (vacuum direct from intake manifold)" This is WRONG. The vacuum has to be taken from a port at the carb, "called tappered edge". Few carbs have this port. For my EV12 I had to drill a port to one carb. The port has to end roundabout 1 - 3 mm in FRONT of the butterfly. If you presse t...

Re: Feeling a little low!
Sometimes the rear springs are "tired" and the car is low. My EV12 had this problem. I mounted 4 new GAZ shocks from Barratt with adjustable high. Now the car is roundabout 1,4" higher in the back than before and I have less ground touches than before.

A friend in Germany hat exactly the same proble last friday. Working and testig all saturday, he found a corroded cable connection in the ignition system. He cleaned this and all was okay.
Maybe this is also your problem, but this is far away to be shure.

Re: Ignition Amplifier
In my car is the modern AB14 ignition amp plus a distributor from a HE-motor plus a drilling at one carb for the CORRECT vaccuum from a "tappered edge" piont to a advance capsule.
Result: no problems since 12 years with the ignition and a lower gas consumption at part throttle.

Re: Stomber v SU
"The Strombergs are 1.75 inch compared to the 1.73 inch of the HIF44." This is not correct. The entrance of the Stromberg has only roundabout 41 mm instead of 1,75 x 2,54 = 44.45 mm. I was wondering, when I realised this the first time. The SU HD8 has 2,54 x 2, 00 = 50,8 mm. I don't know, why the S...

Hello John, you wrote in a former post: Hello there ! No difference in performance between SU's and Strombergs at all. Re: Vacuum Pipes on series 3
The disadvantages of this latter, of not using a “top-of-carb, throttle edge tapping”, is that there is vacuum advance when idling which may cause: • Car idling speed may (?) be unstable and relatively rough; • Yr car may (?) produce more pollutants when idling. • The advance vs load may not be idea...

Re: Vacuum Pipes on series 3
IF ( ? ? ? , you have to check this carefully !!! ) you have a advance unit, the advance unit is adding roundabout 16 or 24 degree of crank advance time to the pre-ignition at idle. You will have roundabout 16 or 24 degree of pre-ignition at idle, if the distributor is turned / fixed to zero degree ...
