Re: Pulling to offside under braking
Mine gets worse under hard braking and I confirm with an infrared sensor that the rear discs are the same temp after a good work out but the right front is 20 degrees hotter than the left. I am considering swapping the left and right calipers to see what happens as I feel like Iam running out of id...

Re: Stale petrol
Ask at a local garage. We use drained petrol for cleaning oil spots off the concrete floor, wiping out the oil drain pan, and as a general pre clean solvent. Failing that, ask at your local RAC - they collect a surprising amount of gasoline which has been tanked in diesel cars, which they then proce...

Also try a Camper or Ship's chandlers if you've got one local. They sometimes stock tubes for heating distribution (although campers are usually a larger diameter).

Re: Timesert or helicoil...?
For the caliper mounting holes the helicoil will be fine. The big problem with either is getting the hole drilled/tapped at 90 degrees.

Re: Inner fulcrum wishbone mounting brackets shim
The shims are just to compensate for manufacturing tolerances between the cage and the casing&brackets. You'll want to get the powder coat off the mating faces - if the bracket fixing bolts have come loose you may find that the mating faces aren't flat anymore, so stone them to be so. Flip the cage,...

Re: Fuel line connectors
Burlen sells Banjos, olives, "T"s and inlines, but last time I asked they didn't sell the barbed banjos and clear line common in the mid-late '60s cars. They're a standard part, you should be able to get them from various places if you know the pipe ID, and thread (for banjos). Some of the regulars ...

Thank you gents for the kind offers of assistance! I’m in Seewen, Solothurn and - funnily enough - the car is just outside Seewen, Schwyz. ... And if you know of a decent garage in that area that would look it over - and can speak English - please do let me know. I highly recommend Kaspar Hürlimann...

Re: Hello! Newbie needs some assistance
I am indeed in Eglisau, about 30 min north of Zurich. Where is the car Mike? I'm not all that versed with the 12s, but for the rest of the E I'm reasonably conversant (and there isn't much one can say about the state of an engine even if you can do a compression test). Perhaps Mark and I could come ...

Re: Bellhousing bolt size
Second question and this is a bit of a long shot- does anyone know what the diameter of the bell housing is? The reason I ask is that my engine stand can cope with a maximum engine back plate diameter of approximately 41cm so it would be good to know if this is large enough to cope. I've never been...

Re: SU carburettor needle comparison graph
And just what kind of file do you use when it's rich ? Then you need the excel file. The filename is "Parts to order". Once you've taken too much off you have to start again, regardless of if you've been messing things up with a lathe or a file. If you use a file to remove material then you can aff...

Re: SU carburettor needle comparison graph
Actually, the usual way is to file a flat on one side. Much easier to see where you're making the change, and duplicate on the other needles.Hugo wrote:You GROUND the needles down? You're a brave man.

Seems I might have a diff oil leak from the input seal! Looked on forum but no evidence to suggest that it can be changed in situ (on an E).......anyone done this? Had lost a 1/3rd of the oil when measured after draining (!) and the oil looked dirty compared to new stuff.....is this discolouring fr...

#4-40 would be 0.112 and 40tpi. 40 tpi might not seem coarse, but it is.
Try running a toothpick in to check the pitch with your thread pitch gauge. (You have a thread pitch gauge, right?)

Re: Wiper Woes, another ruined windscreen .............
Happy to be enlightened by someone with real hands-on experience. I've used Cerium Oxide to remove some pretty deep marks, and diminish some _really_ deep ones (someone hit the screen with a belt sander while doing body work). Crazing like that should come out, but it'll take a few hours just conce...

Re: The end for the MOT for vehicles of historic interest
An interesting aside to all this is that most folks know a place where you can get almost anything past the check. You drive in with a case of beer and a carton of cigarettes in the trunk (boot) and half a hour later the car is outside with a shiny new sticker on the windscreen and the smokes and b...

Re: The end for the MOT for vehicles of historic interest
Never the less I would always want an independent engineer to check and see if I have missed something. I would hope that others will do similar... Indeed, 4 eyes are better than 2. I don't see the point of dropping the MOT. Perhaps increasing the interval - Switzerland is every 5 years, which is t...
