Re: Ownership issues and beyond...
My car was restored (for the second time in 30 years!) by Castle Classics near Basingstoke. Fabulous rapport, excellent workmanship (he taught himself to lead load) and a final product to be proud of. I can only speak as I find, but have one reservation. Would he be able to take the job on? He tends...

Re: E-Type vs 250 GTO?
Wonderful reading this thread. In hindsight, some of the predictions of doom and gloom were right - but five years out. Prices of E-types have dropped, but as for the 250 GTO, I have no idea and nor do most of us since I believe only one has come to auction in the last ten years at least. Most deals...

Re: Jaguar halts E Type Zero
I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I had heard that the change of the car from fuel to electric was being regarded by the DVLA as a substantial change leading the cars open to being re-registered and having to undergo an IVA approval. Cynic that I am I personally believe that they ...

I wouldn't recommend BAS these days. Aldridge according to my restorers are considerably better.

As a point, do you use plastic or brass floats these days? I have had for years a stock of brass floats and still have a few left, so I've never changed. But what is the concensus of the members?

Many of us make our own these days so I thought I would post some images which might make you smile, and which you may use should you so wish. The history of these dates back nearly 30 years when we were planning the E-type tours, and a friend did these sketches for the programmes. I have the origin...

Twin headlamp E-type
Back in 2010 I was sent this picture by a JDC member with a letter saying he had bought the car some years before and was told that the conversion had been done by Jaguar themselves to see if it would improve night driving. Frankly I don't believe it although I spent some time researching, but I tho...

Re: Period photos, some interesting points
Thanks David for correcting me. I ought to have known seeing the car in the flesh but the chassis plate had disappeared! You, as always, are right, and I should have twigged because my car is 13/9/61 and a later engine R1798, not that that is proof of course knowing Jaguar's mix and match propensity...

Re: An interesting insight into rising E-Type prices
Prices are dearer here in France, and one reason is the Wealth Tax. Cars don't count for that, and they have, until recently, proved to be a better investment than the bank. In the main, the French avoid stocks and shares like the plague. I can't access the advert sadly or else I'd have looked it ov...

Re: Period photos, some interesting points
From what I have gleaned over the years the problem with thesingle hinge was that, yes, it wasn't rigid enough but that it was changed not because it broke but that the oscillation allowed the boot lid to open while driving. Perhaps a mix of both but it didn't last long anyway. Sorry to contradict y...

I'm running a 3.8 positive earth car and changed to a 123 dizzy some years back due to arthritis making gapping points difficult. I've had not a problem at all.
Re: Keys
We were in Croatia on a rally and for the life of me I could not find my keys in the morning. My trusty Swiss Army knife came to my rescue though. The barrel is so worn I was able to start the car with the scissors! The keys were found later; they had slipped under the reinforcing base of the - Jagu...

You're probably - as always - right David, but what I love about this forum is that we are all E-type people and know our cars in depth. The contributions are on the money, not wishful thinking. Before I restored my car (for the second time) in 2013 she was Ford Glacier Blue (rather like Opalescent ...

I would tend to disagree with David about painted's and metallic, but again, it's a personal choice. I've had my car over 30 years and find the combination correct for an early car, but it's your car so you choose. But don't moan about the time it will take you to clean the chromed ones ;- And after...

Same problem some years back. I sprayed WD40 and left them, to no effect, and in the end got out the mole grips and yanked. I broke two.

Re: Basic questions when buying an E Type. Question 1
My '61 car has done over 100,000 miles in my ownership on the original head so no, there is no problem with modern fuels. As already said, if you like classic cars then the quirkiness of the Moss box will make you smile, and when you get used to double declutching - and get it right without a graunc...

Bruntingthorpe was great in the 90s I seem to remember, being the old bomber airfield with one ginormous straight.
