I just went through this. There are two plates, one fixed and one movable (the one with the knob on on it). Sandwiched in between is a small ball bearing floating in a hole in the fixed plate. The movable plate has a row of holes in it. As the plate's holes move over the ball it "clicks" in and out ...

The manual sold by XKEbooks is absolutely superb and contains unique drawings and photos. Not cheap at $195 but essential for any S2 owners aspiring to do work on their cars. I can endorse this book. It has been and still is a critically important resource for my ongoing restoration. I have gotten ...

Re: Series II E type 4.2 Under dash harness connections
Where you'll run into trouble is with the indicator switch. The wiring diagram does show the correct colour to colour connections. I just went through this. The 5-pin connector to the turn signal stalk is: Harness --- signal stalk ------------------------------------ Purple --- brown (fabric) Black...

new brake bottle brackets don't fit
I bought a complete brake bottle bracket kit from one of our usual suppliers. Before I write to him with my problem, I want to see if I am clean in this matter, Please let me know your thoughts. The brackets won't wrap around the rail of the frame properly - they seem to be bent too small: http://i3...

Mirror glass replaceable?
My outside mirror is in good shape but the silver is peeling off the back of the glass. Has anyone ever replaced the glass in the mirror? I don't see a way to get it out in one piece. Thanks, Bob t --------- edit -------- Answered my own question. It is glued in, with a line of caulk around the edge...

Dimensions needed - brake bottle heat shield
My brake bottle heat shield is missing. (See circled item #5 below.) I have a nice piece of stainless sheet that i would like to make a heat shield with. Can someone measure their heat shield for me? Length + width, and the point at which the shield "bends". As always, I appreciate the help. Regards...

I have welded together many many cars, including my E type. I don't think you need a fancy welder, (mine's not) but it helps. Requirements are argon gas-ready, adjustable speeds and heat ranges, accepts more than one wire thickness. Auto dark helmet is a must, especially if you are learning. My weld...

mounting point for brake line fitting
I'm running my new stainless brake lines. The line that runs from the slave cylinder on the servo (blue square in my pic) to the rear of the car. It has a three way fitting in it. (Red circled item in my pic.) This fitting has the brake sensor in it as well. It has a bolt and two spacers to attach i...
